Thanks, spoken to Graham he can't get the parts to refurb
as far as I’m aware no one is making RHD worms not even N2 engineering, the LHD worms made by a supplier in Europe are terrible and work opposite to how they should work.
We make the pegs and they are case hardened as they should be as again we’ve had issues with the ones supplied from Europe.

I may, just may have a lhd worm I bought from the Philipines in error quite a few years ago.
I can't go and check at the moment as I've buggered my knee up a bit. If I haven't replied in a week or so please remind me.

I got my Karmann Ghia steering box refurbushed by a company called CPS Ltd on Team Valley Trading Estate at Gateshead a couple of years ago. 1 st class job done. Give them a call see if they can help you.

@Graham L could you have a UK engineering co. make the worm drives (LHD & RHD) for you?
We had RHD & LHD worms made a few years ago, they were good but not perfect, something changes on the spriral to change the stiffness at the centrepoint of the box and they did not spot it and as I said the worms from a European manufacturer are even worse where they get looser in the middle rather than tighter. (the idea is the box gets stiffer as it gets to the middle to give you a positive centre feel in the straight ahead position and then loosens as you turn left or right)

The problem is with the rising cost of steel its making parts production is small runs prohibitive.

They don't list changing the worm though and for that cost I would expect the worm to be changed, they are aware of the issues with the remade worms as I've had conversations with Rick about them.
Yeah, I was lucky enough that when I took mine off (as the steering was really slack) it didn’t turn out to be that bad. Once I adjusted it up it was acceptable. Someone had it set up so with the wheels at dead ahead the peg wasn’t even on the ”tight spot” on the worm. As you say the worm has to be machined with less clearance in that central area.
I used to be a toolmaker, and I’m sure the cost of making quality replacements would be prohibitive

Thanks Sparky.
I was wondering if these were the European ones Graham was talking about or if they are indeed top quality 😄
I know my steering is a bit loose, but I still have a recon box from a VW show in California from 20years ago. Don’t know if it’s any good but will need to try it at some point…

They're not in stock, you need to call them. I think they wait for enough orders and then get a batch made.
They are made by BBT but as traders we are finding that parts suppliers are not holding stock unless they have to, this was Machine 7's downfall, taking orders & peoples money telling people things were in stock and then the next day emailing to say that they hadn't got stock, at least Coolair are being honest, if you contact them they say they will get one in.
