Hey guys, what does pcd stand for in relation to wheels, I just tried to buy some wheels and the guy said these are wide 5s 205 pcd and that they won`t fit my bay 1970 original front end drums etc, I thought I had wide 5s ?? Are there different wide 5s or am I being dopey as usual.

Ummmm if you have early bay wide 5s then you have 5x 205 pcd..........crossovers and lates....go 5x 112 pcd

Thanks for that, but dopey as always what`s pitch circle ?? I know what you mean as I`m partial to a bit of pussy myself, I bet you saw that one coming. Well are there different sized studs from ,,,,,, say a wide 5 bug to a wide 5 bay ??

top wheel is wide 5/205mm pcd
bottom wheel is narrow 5/112mm pcd

Sherbie is wide 5, and I think from memory that Madonna is narrow 5.

Thanks guys,,,,,,, you`ve restored my sanity, I also get the pcd thing now. But actual stud sizes, the actual size of the stud and hole in the wheel, are these the same on all wide 5s ???? I did read a couple of threads where people claim to have bought either 2nd hand or aftermarket 2nd hand wheels and although wide 5s they wouldn`t fit their bus because of stud sizes ? Is that possibley larger or smaller studs or they bought the wheels and didn`t like them and tried to move them on ?? You sometimes have to read in between the lines on some threads I know, but what do you guys reckon ??

Hello ozzie, it's the wheel offset that's important. Although fitting Radars to an early bus is not to be undertaken lightly....

Hey Wiggy, thanks again, I knew some of it but really didn`t realise the 65 was a percentage. What do you reckon to the differing stud sizes ?? Fact ? or fiction ??

Fiction. All bay wheels bolts and nuts are 14mm.
Beetle wheel bolts are 12mm up to 1967, and then they're 14mm as well.

You say fiction,, but the earlier ones are smaller, so they wouldn`t fit our bays ??? Or am I just not saying this or reading it right ??? Getting more confused on a daily basis, OHHHHHH and I just bought em anyway. They are in Scotland, the fellas taking them to action and another fella is bringing them down to Bristol on Sunday eve. So When is Action ?? Is it this weekend ??

action is not next weekend, the one after. if wheels have the wrong stud size that can usually be rectified with a 14mm drill. and obviously go the other way with a good washer. like the boys say, "offset is the king" (the position of the wheel in the arch) carlos fandango " sticks out like a 70's muscle car ( low offset, even negative offset or seriously deep dish). or tucked in (high offset, negative dish) done right. tucked at the front and dished to the max at the back looks bloody great

Resurrecting this thread—I am struggling to find some wheel nuts for my EMPI alloys, I need 4 to replace the locking nuts. Mine seem to be 12mm all round, but all I can find online is 14mm (M14 is 14mm, is that correct?). My bus is a 1971 with discs up front, I can't see any records in the history about them being changed from standard at any point.

These are my current nuts:

Just check that the nuts are the correct profile. I’m sure bus bolts are curved as standard, not tapered, but it might just be that your aftermarket wheels have a different mating face on them to standard.

Cheers Moseley—my EMPI bolts are all tapered, whether this is correct or not I don't know, I've covered a shockingly small amount of miles in my bus in the 10 years of ownership to notice any driving issues!

Measuring the inside diameter of the wheel nuts will NOT give you the thread size, because you are measuring between the nut's thread-peaks rather than the thread-valleys. If you want to determine the nut's thread size, find a bolt or screw-stud that screws into the nut and measure the outside diameter of the bolt's or screw-stud's thread.

Right you are @naskeet — thank you! My bolts are 14mm standard, ignore what I said above, I was obviously trying to do too many things at once.
