Hi all - anyone here rebuilt there steering box ??
It’s one of the few bits i’ve not touched yet - any hints or tips ??
Easy enough for an enthusiastic divvy ?? A dangerous combination of a Bentley manual owning ‘have a go harry.’
1969 RHD - all original.
Thinking I could do it over the winter break 🌈👍

I guess it depends how knackered it is :) I stripped mine about 10 years ago, machined the peg as it had a flat spot (replacements weren't available back then) and changed the seals. Has worked well since although recently developed a small drip.

Seal sizes are 24-36-7 and 25-36-7

Sweet …I feel inspired!!
Where best for spares and nos pin ??
Love the photos 🌈👍
Hi, yes they are rebuildable but it isn’t cheap. Having said that, it’s still cheaper than buying a replacement and it’s quite satisfying, although the needle bearings are fiddly, just use lots of grease to hold them in place. The only thing that you won’t know until it’s apart is the condition of the worm. But as long as it hasn’t got any major scoring, you should be ok. If it is badly worn then Midland Early Bay refurbished one is your best bet. This is where I got my peg.

Bearings and seals were from simply bearings and I used millers classic steering box oil.

This is also a great resource for a step by step rebuild
