The Oldest Bay On The Forum

I confess i have been absent from this forum for a while but now I'm back and this thread came up in response to an idle wondering of mine, what's more is that it doesn't seem to have been resolved, ie what is the oldest UK spec RHD bay known? I know that my van is fairly early as chasing parts...

    What jobs do we do?

Short spell as Navy Oficer, 25 odd years with own classic car restoration business, now with small telecoms R&D company specialising in TAMs, Testheads & ADF. I do all the metal work and installation design. Basically the clever guys make it work and I make it fit the hole available! Fortunately...

    Panel Van Porn

I don't know! What's your M plate date & number? Mine's 23/8 Chassis No. EN 2140 383836 8010436. This is the only other 'F' reg UK panel I've ever seen, and coincidentally the original colour (paint & Trim)was identical to yours, (velvet green & beige)

    68 Model Year Chassis Numbers

    M Plate: 23 8 11 396 EN 2140 383836 8010436 Chassis Number: 218010436 Walk through Panel van (built August 23 '67 if my interpretation is correct.) Registered OYR 285F in October '67

Earliest RHD bay - anyone know of any older ?

I can join in this thread! My panel OYR 285F was registered here in October '67. The M plate says the build date was August 23 '67. It is still in its original configuration and spec, but it is a different colour. I have owned it for about 20 years and for the first 15 or so it was my workshop...

REV LIMITERS - what, why,who runs one?

My 67 panel still has its original type and spec 1600 single port engine breathing through its 'thimble' carb. For years, before they attained the current cult status, it was just the works van and likely to be driven (Thrashed) by all and sundry. As a safeguard I left the limiter rotor arm in...

Brake master cylinder query - Oct 1967 LHD to RHD Conversion

I have an original RHD Aug 67 with the same brake set up. The master cylinder is mounted under the driver's floor so that only the very rear most end of the cylinder and the pipes intrude into the front inboard corner of the wheel arch by about three quarters of an inch (19mm if you prefer!)...

    67 DD PANEL

Yes, see my pics in panel van porn, it's the blue one parked among the Tatras. It's a '67 (Aug) single door, rhd, walkthrough. It has always worked hard for its living and has been repaired and patched up so many times that I've calculated that about 30% by weight is the original. However it is...

    Hub removal

See my last post on 'Suspension joint dust covers'. This is the same job.

    Suspension Joint Dust Cover!!!!!!!

This is a case of Clarkson46's signature being spot-on! The fork type separators will always do damage to something, I gave up on them decades ago. If you can't get hold of a large enough separator of the hinged variety then use the oldest method about, this has never failed me in 30 odd years...

    Brake flaring tools

I share similar views to ianscooby. Brake pipes are too critical to cut corners on, so the flaring tool is important. I have a Sykes Pickavant professional type left over from my mechanicking days which is superb and quick if you're making new pipes in the workshop, but impossible to use if...

    Panel Van Porn

Way ahead of you there. I have a 2.5 litre V8 from a 603 waiting in the workshop. It's going to need a bit of an upgrade as the original quality of these engines leaves a little to be desired. Also they only manage about 90bhp in their original, rather crude, state. With a few improvements I...

Brake part needed & where does them????

Those little spring tabs are what make the adjusters 'click' as you alter them and I suppose they were there to stop the brakes self adjusting as well. However mine have been missing for the last 15 years or so without any adverse effects. The adjusters are stiff enough to hold the setting...

    Panel Van Porn

Hi all, I've found some pics of my van in its 'work clothes' when it was a little healthier than it is now. As you see it is good (air cooled) company out side my old workshops. When I'm done with the present refit it will actually be in better shape than it is here. It no longer has the sign...

    fitting servo to early bay

I'm in the process of fitting the same type of servos to my panel. (2 as it's a dual circuit system). You may need to review your servo mounting. The outlet end should be angled upwards to allow bleeding of the system, otherwise it is very likely that you will get an airlock in the servo body...
