    Subaru powered early bays... GO!

I have one of those: I just fitted a Benco Racing Rebuilt 091 Trans with 1.14 3rd gear and .70 4th gear... life is good.

'71 Deluxe - Now with Super Secret Subaru Swap!

Thanks man I am long long looooong overdue for an update to this thread. Bus has been running great, no issues to speak of. I've made some upgrades as well but I'll just answer your question for now... the lower suction side filler tube was abandoned because I was losing coolant. In that...

i thought i'd seen it all

LOL It's a Subaru, it comes with a Subaru engine. To really troll everyone I'd do an aircooled vw engine swap, so it would have the soul of a Bay :50:

    Scooby or Not Scooby?

I lol'ed when I came up with that. I think it perfectly captures the soul of a baywindow bus. Suby engine or no, it is still just as quirky, awkward and fun to drive. Imagine never having to eff with the engine- simply hop in anytime, hit the key and go on an adventure. That's my life. Life...

    Scooby or Not Scooby?

I did it and I have no regrets. My priorities for the build were reliability and low maintenance. No carbs to adjust, no timing to adjust, no points to adjust, just smooth reliable efi power. I don't even need to adjust valves for another 100k miles, just put oil and gas in it, that's it. I...

If my donor car was a 5 speed it would have been sweet. But it was an automatic so I couldn't use the flywheel and clutch stuff, nor could I use the transmission itself. Hard to pass up at $400 for the ej22 engine (111k miles) full wiringing harness and ECU (which I didn't use). The subaru...

Paul_q, what gears do you have in your 091 and what engine are you running? I did consider the subarugears setup- I do agree that it is ideal to run the suby 5 speed, but the issue is cost. I was very seriously looking at going that route early this year. I costed everything out on a Friday...

'71 Deluxe - Now with Super Secret Subaru Swap!

I looked up my top speed with the new box, it would be 139 mph at 6200 rpm! My Microsquirt EFI is governed to 6200 rpm max. If I went back to stock tires it would be 150 mph @ 6200 rpm. Ridiculous. I probably won't try it haha. Currently with my stock 002 transmission and my little tires...

I guess you did take another look at instagram! I had 97 likes from Mr. O'Grady here on Sunday morning LOL, it was quite the surprise. Thanks for the support, bro! Made me want to get in here and update my thread. Not much new going on with my bus other than it's getting used quite a bit...

'71 Deluxe - Now with Super Secret Subaru Swap!

LOL Alistair, thanks for keeping the thread alive. As you know I have been busy but pretty much just posting to Instagram. So I finally got my Wideband O2 sensor installed. I have run just about a half a tank of fuel through and I'm at 21 mpg around town. I expect it to continue to improve...
