Nice job, I'm doing very something similar at the moment after I got hold of a 1300 twin port. Can I ask who did the work on the heads? I have a decent pair of 1300 heads that I would like to reuse to get it to 1600. Cheers Martin

A few from me, we had a great time.

Just fitted frenchslammer 11cm narrowed beam, drop spindles, from graham at Midland Early Bay. Very pleased with it, superb quality.

Bentley manual says there should be no more than .80 mm movement when the valve is nearly seated.

That looks exactly the same as mine, the stench pipe screws on to the threaded black bit. Looks like someones added the cap to blank it off. Cheers Martin

I managed to fit the stench pipe with the unit in situ, just be careful s they are quite brittle. Also the flip over table on my 71 doesn't have the support, just the hinges hold it up. Hope that helps Martin

I had an diesel airtronic in mine and used a small washer bottle from a scrapyard, located just above the leisure battery, worked fine. Martin

I go over kirkstone pass, via 'the struggle, quite a lot in my bus, also honister pass, it'll get up them no problems just take your time and whatever you do don't stop.. It's the going down bit you have to be careful of!!

If it helps the relay in my '71 is a DNI127, do you have a seperate pull switch for the flash?

As others have said..Tom wilsons "how to rebuild You vw or cooled engine" is very good, helped me a lot. And the Bentley manual too, lots of good stuff on here as well. Just take your time, Measure carefully, torque everything correctly. I Did mine last winter, loved doing it and learnt loads...
