    Front calipers

Did mine last year and had clearance problems on the hub. My yank import had Jap discs/hubs and the calipers fouled on the cast in makers marks. Ground the markings away and still fouled. Spoke to JK and was told than sometimes grinding the caliper body is necessary. Very carefully took off as...

    tyres

When I bought my bus it was in stock trim and was running 195 tyre width and was still heavy on the steering. Regarding wet handling, best guess is that narrow tyre is less likely to aquaplane, particularly when unladen. It should cut through to the road surface rather than skimming on top of...

    New Track Rod for sale

If it will fit a '72 model year I'm interested if you still have it. Please excuse me, but I'm new. To using PM. If you can let me know how to do the deal I'd appreciate it.

    Indicator switches (again)

Problem solved. Massive build up if dust & crud appears to have been causing a short at the hazard switch, all cleaned & working again. Wiring diagram provided is the best I've seen and certainly helped me out. Thanks everbody

    Indicator switches (again)

What a star! This makes a lot more sense to me than a wiring diagram. Seems to be pretty much what I have come up with, only now, when the ignition is turned on, the dashboard tell tale lights flash quickly until I turn the indicators on. Looks like the relay is probably suspect as well. Thanks...

    WANTED - Fuse box bracket

Anybody got a fuse box bracket for a '72 model year van that they are willing to sell please. Failing that, anybody got a couple of pics of an original one so I can have a go at making one. Thanks

    Can't indicate left, busted switch?

Just solved the same problem. Take off the single spring on the inside edge o the switch (as opposed to the pair of springs on one of the faces) as this seems to provide the pressure that holds the switch in the on position. Gently operate the switch and you will see that the springs pull metal...

    Indicator switches (again)

Late '71 American import which was rewired before I got it. Indicator switch will not stay on in the left turn position, the left turn live terminal smokes intermittently & dashboard tell tales glow dim when it smokes. Somebody has obviously converted it for the UK. There are now 5 wires going...

    Firewall removal

When I was 30yrs younger, fitter & slimmer AND had a pit & hoist, wouldn't have given it a second thought with my Beetles. Vans & T4 engines are all new to me a I'm still trying to find my way around them! One day it will happen, I've no doubt

    Electric Motor Noise

The vent pipes you describe could be what I'm seeing. Tried the screwdriver trick, still leads me to above the the ROS wheel. Heater fan is still in place, still got to get it working. I'll try the fuses. Thanks

    Electric Motor Noise

I have a '72 American import. When I turn the ignition on, I can hear an the sound of a 'dry' electric motor somewhere in the area of the ROS wheel but can't find out where the noise was coming from. It comes on when the ignition it turned on & remains on when the engine is started. My first...

    Firewall removal

Thanks for the pic - that's exactly what i found when I got it apart. Firewall removal is possible without removing the T4 engine 1. Remove heater fan to give access 2. Remove carb & manifold (in my case, with twin carbs, it was just the air filters) - not forgetting to stuff something in the...

    Firewall removal

After 3 hours I can confirm that the firewall WILL come out without engine removal (just air cleaners need removing, wiring loom needs to be moved out of the way & voltage regulator disconnected). Not surprised to find the rubber elbow between the fuel filler breather & the top of the tank was...

    Firewall removal

Not the reply I was hoping for but thanks anyway. Never had a problem removing a T1 engine, any pitfalls with the T4 I should be aware of?
