How do the new seats compare heightwise with the originals? Do you sit higher with them?

How big can tinware gaps be?

I played around with high temp silicone sealant on my current engine tins. Hard to get it looking neat (I didn't really try) but its held well for 6,000 miles or so. Might be worth a go if you have the time to get it looking neat.

How big can tinware gaps be?

I've 'fettled' my tinware as best I can but still have a biggish gap on the cylinder tins. Does anyone use sealant to fill these gaps? Its original VW tinware on a 1904 engine. The fit is around the same as on my 1600 with other VW tinware but I always thought that the 1600 ran a little hot.

    123 Distributor needs adapter ring?

I think that the little gap would bother me just in terms of appearance. I've just found the Porsche ring sold as a separate item on the 123 website (https://www.123ignitionshop.com/gb/specials/167-PorscheRing.html) priced at €10 - they'd sent me a link to a full Porsche kit that included it...

    123 Distributor needs adapter ring?

That's very interesting - thanks. I dug out my Mexican SVDA which measures 35mm from the base to the end of the shaft body. The 123 version measures 43mm, according to their pics so I guess the 123 has 8mm of exposed shaft (sorry...) and that is what the CSP ring and the 123 Porsche ring are...

    123 Distributor needs adapter ring?

I'm dithering between buying a Pertronix 3 multi spark electronic ignition to go inside my almost new Mexican SVDA along with a Pertronix low resistance coil or the Tune + with my existing coil. I like the idea of being able to tweak the curves in the 123 but the Pertronix kit is a bit cheaper.

    123 Distributor needs adapter ring?

Thanks sparkywig - good to know. @Dci_Carter - 123 came back quickly to say that the adapter is only needed on Porsche cases

    123 Distributor needs adapter ring?

It would be going into a standard AD 1600 case but it’ll be going into a 1904 build later (new mag case) I haven’t fully decided on buying the 123 unit yet but thought that fit might be an issue going by what CSP are saying.

    123 Distributor needs adapter ring?

Can anyone here with a 123 Distributor tell me if an adapter ring is necessary? 123 themselves don't seem to supply one but CSP do and say its necessary. I'd buy from CSP but the postage to Ireland is too high... CSP say: "Because the 123ignition distributors come with a universal body which...

    Wiper motor mount question

Thanks - that's good news. I need to have it on the road tomorrow but didn't want to risk any electrical issues. I'll track down some sort of grommet to replace the missing one in the next week or two

    Wiper motor mount question

Hi, I was putting the wiper motor back in my '71 but the rubber grommet on the base of the motor mount disappeared down the heater tube.... Is it necessary to have one there to insulate the motor from the body (there's a separate earth) or is it ok to do without? Cheers

    Electric fuel pumps.

I've a Facet mounted above the gearbox using the little rubber mounts that are optional but make all the difference. When i looked into it, it appeared that some people had reliability issues with Facet pumps because they weren't mounted with a gravity feed from the tank. Mine can be heard...
