On us buses the throttle was rigged to close slowly so as to reduce emissions. Mine are removed as they caus an undesirable lag in engine performance. The big black cannister is the us spec evapoative emission contol system. Look it up on sambe if you want to hook it up.

I understand here in the states that they were not supposed to flash. One of my 71s flashes and one doesnt. So if you have a LHD it may or may not flash. In 71 i bought a new westy and they did not flash. Flashing is a way to say hi to other drivers of vw.

I live near burning man and while my buses will never go to the playa during the event I do see a lot of buses going there. If you're in the right spot you can buy a broken one cheap. The dirt out there is evil on engines.

One of my bays has a stock 43 yr old one with a few chips near the horn. My other has a new repro that is 2 yrs old. The 43 yr old is in much better shape. New one is cracked extensively. Buy an old original one.
