As usual it's one step forward and six back in getting the van on the road. Old fuel pump was leaking as the seal had gone in the top section (original old one with the screw on the top). Can't get the seals any more so bought a new pump. Engine runs great now the carb settings are all correct, but the pump is rattling something horrible. Sounds like someone shaking a tin can with a nut in it. Any ideas anyone? Supposed to be driving it from Notts to Banbury for my son to use as his wedding transport in three weeks time, but that is looking doubtful. Already have the steering column off as the horn goes every time I turn the wheel, so the list of jobs is getting longer : (

Sorry to hear about this. It’s a familiar tale with one job leading to another etc etc. Too many things were left until another time when these vans had little or no value. When you changed the fuel pump, did you change the pushrod to go with it ? The pushrods wear over time and there are at least two length push rods as far as I know. The new pushrods are made of chocolate as are the new fuel pumps so keep an eye on it. I’ve had one pump last a week and it’s replacement has lasted over five years,. My guess is your push rod is worn down or it’s the wrong sized one for this pump.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,and just as you think you’ve finished,,,,,,,:)

Thanks Ozziedog, I didn't change the pushrod, though it is the right length for the pump. It is probably the original one so will be worn. So I guess it's another job to add to the list. 😩

If it’s the original type of fuel pump with the 5 or 6 screws holding it together then Schofields do a rebuild kit for it, could be the push rod rattling but as long as you’ve bought the same type of pump for an alternator or dynamo set up then the rod should be OK.
Has the fuel pump sleeve, the black plastic sleeve broken up as that will cause ratting.

Your horn going off could be a number of things as it works by the cable running up the inner shorting to the outer to make the earth contact, simple fix is put in a temp switch and disconnect the wire that comes from the column to the horn and put a new earth wire to a switch, the horn is permanently live so you make and break the earth contact to make it sound, hope that helps
