Converting Oil Hoses to hydraulics?

Hi Luke, if you would rather talk to some hose specialised and suppliers of hoses and fittings that are close to you in Nottingham I can recommend a couple that I use regularly. Shepherd hydraulics in Alfreton and Carlton hydraulics in Rotherham both have trade counters that you can use and will make up the hoses that you require with the fittings that you want. If you can take the hoses as a pattern they will normally be able to make them up while you wait. Mat
Thanks Mat - much appreciated. I'll look them both up.

With the info on here, I reckon I can get the hoses sorted - just need to work out what fittings I need for the engine / filter / cooler now.

Getting there!

Luke.

...in fact, why would anyone use a fitting that's not a 3/8 npt??

Is this just a case of take out the current fittings and take them to a shop??

I can never stand why people put the oil filter in the engine bay, just makes a mess.

That hose you’ve got is what I use for breather pipes, it’s good stuff.

After a quick google of Aeroquip FC598 hose it may be that this hose is designed for a push-fit barb and is perhaps too stiff to be compressed enough by the jubilee clip.
Someone else who knows a bit more about hoses will along soon I’m sure. 😀
As a matter of interest what is your engine spec? Crank, cam etc.

Not as much of a mess as when the pipes come off 😆😆

Hi Mike,

The engine is a 1904cc, pretty much rebuilt by Bears Motorsports in Brum/Leicester.

These are notes from when it was fixed (oil plug dropped off on the motorway; dropped its oil; f%^&ed itself) in 2016.

to which I will have said "Let's do the job Properly, as that's the approach we've taken with everything else on the van - no shortcuts".

Parts List:

Ended up getting a new crank case from Autocraft as that proved to be cracked too. Expensive few months! (Auto linea aluminium super case with 10mm head stud case savers, raised roof with clearance for up to 82mm stroke, cylinder bores machined for 90.5mm barrels ,and drilled and tapped for full flow.)

And for the record, this is the engine that it replaced, which we'd had since 2011:

Weber DCNF’s are an unusual choice these days. Good carbs but most people pick IDF’s.

Hey Luke, (sorry slightly off topic) I noticed from your pic that your pulley is very close to your oil cooler hose fitting. I have the same set up and can't get the belt off without taking the pulley off with the 32mm nut. I have a standard pulley and V-belt, does your setup get round this issue?

Hey - no worries.
I think we may have a slightly different setup - mine's a Serpentine:

Nice engine😊 I see you had an oil problem with the old engine! Hope you get this one sorted ok.

It sounds like the best thing would be to get the fittings as recommended above. Be a shame if this engine destroyed itself as well. If you’re not too confident doing it maybe take it to a trustworthy Aircooled garage and discuss it with them.
