The good news is I've removed the steering wheel, the bad news is a hoofing chunk of Bakelite has snapped off. I have the chunk, can it be glued back in place and will the wheel still be safe to use?

To fill in any cracks etc look for 'Milliput' modelling epoxy on ebay/amazon etc, used it before and it can be sanded & painted with good results

Done the same thing whilst removing the steering wheel. Now back to normal. Minus a spray. I used

EVO-STIK Hard & Fast Metal Epoxy Putty, Sets Steel Hard in 10 Minutes, Colour: Grey, 50g stick

It was on Amazon for £6:94.

Works a treat. Although I did leave a little too much on so I had to sand it a fair bit. But no harm done.
