My leisure battery went flat over the winter, I think this was mostly because it's kippered and needs replacing, but it got me thinking about an isolator on the Leisure battery.

Who's got an isolator fitted, show me some pictures.

I have one of those on my main battery. Just a few quid via ebay.

A lead acid battery will discharge in storage, even quicker if still connected, that's why battery conditioners were developed.

I had my battery on a conditioner all winter (on a bench). Come spring it was unable to hold a charge ... I'm still angry about the electicity I wasted on it :D

My LB is only showing 12.1v with the engine running, whereas the starter battery reads 14. 4v
At the split charge relay I get 14.4v at terminal 30 but just 12.1v at terminal 87. Does that tell me anything? I'm thinking my LB isn't charging but don't know how to investigate that. Any help greatly received.

Yep. Got these on my 1971 T2a. Great bits of kit for isolation and battery drain saving. One on both main and leisure battery negative terminal only. I have moved my M + LB batteries to under the R&R bed with a 3000W inverter under there also. Makes life easier than crouching under the engine lid when working on them.

Has the fuse blown on the split charger?

No I don't believe so but I've noticed that the wire that should go from the relay to the top of the alternator (excitor) doesn't, instead it appears to go through to the front of the van but I'm struggling to trace it. The only reason I can think the wire would go to the front would be for a manual switch to charge the LB.
