    Copper brake pipes

So weren't OG brake pipes on our buses from the 70's made from copper?

    Boris

Keep going Jon - know your pain, been working steadily on ours since Dec and still dont have an engine installed! You will get there buddy and nice to have 2 weeks to play - especially now the weather is nice and warm ;) What are you plans with the engine whilst its out?

    Copper brake pipes

Ive used copper for years and never had an issue or comment by the mot inspector - easier to use as its softer

    Copper brake pipes

As long as copper brake lines are well clipped/attached they will be fine - only an issue they can move and work harden, then snap. Kunifer is the alternative which I think is a harder Cupro-nickel alloy compared to copper

    Running very hot

Have you taken the alternator/dynamo belt off and span the fan by hand to see if it is free and not blocked? Maybe post a pic of your engine and we can diagnose something from that? Any chance your oil cooler could be blocked/restricted?

    MOT or not MOT

Yep very very true - ive seen a few very questionable mot exempt vehicles at shows that have been driven there on the roads where there are large sections of the floor missing, clearly dangerous and unsecured braking components/lines and badly repaired or not repaired chassis pieces and so on...

    MOT or not MOT

As of the 20th May 18 all vehicles built before 1978 will be MOT exempt unless substantially modified. Will leave the interpretation of that down to individuals who choose whether or not to MOT their own vehicle. Tax free status has no bearing on the MOT so if you decide to get your bus...

    MOT or not MOT

Have a read of the this thread from VZI - someone there was able to register a MOT exempt Willys Jeep without having it tested and drive on the road legally. If you wait till after the May 20th date it should be a straightforward process (relatively) to get it on the road...

    MOT or not MOT

If it is pre 1978 - nope
  18. StuF

    MOT or not MOT

From 20th May 18 I dont think you do - if its due before then it needs one to be driven on the road https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/mot-exemption-cars-over-40-years-old-arrives-may-2018

Changing brakes from drums to discs

Straightforward to do - get a CSP disk brake kit in wide 5 format and away you go If you are prepared to go for Porsche brakes several options open up or you could go for a late bay setup and fit later wheels I run a CSP kit with a remote brake servo and Wide 5 wheels

    "LemurBus" Empty Garage Syndrome

Looks really smart - my RJES rad pack is signicantly larger and incorporates two massive fans and an integral scoop. That one would be easier to install too but I’ll make do with what I’ve bought. Nice to see other options though. Will have a good crawl around yours when I see it in the metal.
