    A photo of your nuts.

Thanks Ozzie, I may take you up on that. 👍

new to forum - 1971 double cab

Welcome, nice DC 👍 are you planning on doing much to it? From the photos it looks like it's already in great condition?

    A photo of your nuts.

Nice one 👍. I have a very similar nut situation on the front bumper step mount. It's rounded off and I've got no idea how to get it out. I'm thinking that drilling is going to be the only option 😭

    Got my new fire going

Hey look at this bad boy! Just having a Thursday night beer in the garden with a (completely unnecessary, coz it's boiling) campfire. Like yours Ozzie! Very good for £12!

    Cheryl’s first bus

It sounds like the idle jets may be the wrong size, I had mine on a rolling road and we tried larger (I think) idle jets and the symptoms were like you described. When I took it out on the road it was hesitant and stuttering below about 3000 rpm, when I put the old ones back it was fine.

    Cheryl’s first bus

Great news! Mine has no choke so (if I remember) I let it idle for 5-10 mins before driving, esp in cold weather. But like you is say it takes a few miles to get warmed up. When I had a vintage speed saust on it used to backfire a lot when cold. Hardly does it at all with the 4-1 stainless I've...

    Feeling underpowered.

Could be carb, I was talking to a bloke on same campsite the other day and he was saying that he bought a 2nd hand carb, Solex I think, got it refurbished and it made a huge difference to the standard Pict one. Maybe the carb just needs readjusting? Especially since you've replugged something.

    1970 San Francisco westfalia resto

Sounds sweet, and looks damn quick. I know what my bus would look like covering that distance, LOL.

    Leisure electrics part 2.

Something I noticed over the last few days when I was in Cornwall, is that a 12V 3-way fridge eats the leisure battery when parked up at the beach all day. Compounded by the fact that I was only driving 1-5 miles each day to the beach and back so not really replenishing it. I had hook-up at the...

    Successful trip to Cornwall

Just got back from the 400 mile round trip to McDonalds Farm campsite in Porthcothan and back. There was another bay there, a recently restored cross-over, the owner built it from bits 22 years ago. No issues to report, it used a bit of oil. I'm always a bit nervous driving large distances...

    Knock from steering when stationary

Thanks for the replies, I don't know about the oil situation. It doesn't look like anything is about to explode so I'll investigate when I get back from Cornwall at the weekend. The noise I have is definitely from that clamp on the idler pin as I can make it make the same noise by moving it...

    Knock from steering when stationary

So a quick inspection revealed nothing really, the rubber coupling before the box looks brand new and no play in any bolts/joints. The only thing making a noise is the clamp on top of the idler pin, in the middle of the beam, moving up and down by about 0.5mm when the steering changes direction...

    Steering problem

The front tyres are Michelin Cross Climate 185/65 R14, they say "Extra Load" on them.

    Knock from steering when stationary

I noticed yesterday that when the steering wheel is turned through the slack part, going from L-R or R-L there is a knock sound. I can physically feel it as the wheel is turned so something must be hitting something. I can't remember if I've noticed this before and I drove it 10 miles or so the...

    Ignition barrel starter switch issues

Had a fairly new one fail on me. It was just as I got it in 2019 and the PO replaced it for me. Symptoms were that it would turn no problem, but only started every few attempts or not at all.

    Windscreen covers

When I first went camping in mine I didn't remember to put my screen cover on until I'd got back from camp-fire beers at midnight! As you can imagine this is tricky in the pitch black! Anyway woke up the next morning fairly early as it was very light in the van. Went out to see what had happened...

    Steering problem

When I got my bus it had normal car tyres on 15" Empi copies with about 32psi in and when I first drove it in a crosswind I thought I was going to start bouncing off other cars. It was very scary. First fix was to put max pressure in all tyres, this made a big difference but still not great. I...

    Small amount of restoration...

Had a spare back cushion, I had intended to make another seat, but looks good on the new fridge.

3-Way fridge on 12v not working

I bought a 3-way on FB, it gets nice and cold on 240v, which the PO had only ever done, but on 12v the back gets warm, but the fridge isn't cold. Any ideas?
