    cab headlining

I made mine years ago and it still looks good. I overordered and made a second from the excess fabric, sold straight away, good feedback. A similar perforated vinyl is readily available off the roll, it's pliable and stretchy, so easy to fit tought. Surprisingly cheap and the width of a roll is...

    Pop top lining

I ask as i really need to get mine finished so just looking at what others have done. Mine is a '72 danbury, straight up lift. A few years ago I made a new canvas with vent and windows using acrylic canvas. It's waterproof and looks great. Some friends who do magic with stainless steel are...

    Carburettor gasket

I agree, dry fit, no grease on fuel pumps, carbs etc. If sanding or filing be sure to block any holes where the metal dust/filings might drop into the manifolds and then the cylinders, remove to sand if you can to be on the safe side. Good luck.

    Pop top lining

Hey Mike, did you ever line your pop top?

    Carburettor gasket

Hi Darren, Has this only been fitted once? Most gaskets are one time use only, as they deform to make the seal on crushing. If removing and refitting then buy or make a new gasket. Normally sealant is not used for carbs or fuel pumps as petrol attacks most silicone or PU based sealants...

    CSP bell crank linkage

I have csp bellcrank on weber twin 34's, retaining clip only on one end. Bought new, i unwrapped the kit myself. I will source clips or buy ball joints and take the clips off or just swap out the joints. It's appalling that they are removing them, its a retaining clip to prevent what has...

    Engine question…

Hi plant, some more info would help. What vehicle and what engine is fitted? Was it all good before you changed these parts and tuned up? Did you time the spark dynamically or static? What carb are you running? Which bosch dizzy is fitted? there are numbers stamped on the side. Is the dizzy a...

    Silicone Heat exchanger pipes!

Ah, I know the cans you mean. I fitted a new stock exhaust on a 1600sp beetle engine a while ago. They were miles out from the tinware holes and could never fit without completely reshaping and welding more metal on. I did the same as you and just ran hose all the way. No more leaks.

cab door handle stopped working - 71 bus

I believe its the small spring in the lock itself as was mentioned by Coda and Mike. Thanks for the offer. I was going to get new from C&C as an old part may break sooner and its a PITA to do.

    Getting to front plugs

Try this trick: Push a piece of fuel or breather hose over the top of the spark plug to extend it and use that to locate and screw it in by hand, then just pull the hose off and tighten with socketry.

cab door handle stopped working - 71 bus

Get a second hand OG handle to get you by and wait for C&C to get some more made, they should be able to give you a rough time frame. Avoid cheapo handles as you they are often not even the same shape and don't fit the gasket seals. You definitely get what you pay for in this case. I've got C&C...

    Silicone Heat exchanger pipes!

but I'm not sure if they can be shaped to fit like the heater hose can + the heater hose looks OG but better quality with a slight sheen. Can be wiped clean too, it won't absorb oil or fuel and won't scuff up like the card ones if wetted and wiped.

    Silicone Heat exchanger pipes!

Mine is fitted the same, ovalled around the exhaust pipe and straight through with some rubber edging trim around the tinware holes. I wonder if anyone has ever managed to get the original steel tube connectors that go through the tinware to sit right and look OK. The original style seals are...

    Silicone Heat exchanger pipes!

I replaced the OG style card/foil hoses from the heat exchanger to the fan housing with eberspacher branded heater hose, it's similar in looks, black satin finish, much tougher, but could still be shaped around my aftermarket 4 into 1 collector exhaust. For the larger, concertina heater tubes in...

    Getting to front plugs

You dont say what engine or carbs are fitted. If the plugs have been in a while change them for new as a matter of course. I have a type 1 engine with 34ict's on short manifolds (4 to 5" high) A 3/8" ratchet, wobble extension and a spark plug socket with UJ swivel built in does the trick. If you...

Are Lemforder ball joints meant to be the best available?

I replaced mine a few years ago. Had to shop around but found Meyle HD (Heavy Duty) ball joints. These were highly rated as about the best you can get. Brace yourself though, it took a map gas blow torch and a maxed-out 10 Tonne press to get the old OG ones out.

VW Stamped Flat Hub Caps With No Holes ?!

Have you tried them on your wheels? That looks like a modern genuine vw part for a 72 -79 bus 112 pcd stud pattern 14" wheel. Do they have a matt grey, stonechip type finish inside? Ones available over the last few years have a wider rim than originals but are made for 112 wheels. Never seen...
