    Oil bath thermostat

Vac tube usually comes from carb.. Did you have to replace the thermo switch thingy ,the one in the top of the oil bath. (opens at 30°) I upgraded to the same set up as you, vast improvement 👍

Parts Wanted Thermostat and flaps wanted

VW engineers didn't design & fit the thermostat system for fun. They are to allow the engine to warm up as quickly as possible and then to control the engine and oil temperatures. Don't forget, most engine wear takes place when the engine is cold. Would you take out and discard the thermostat...

    What Oil ? ? ?

Hi, i think I'm going to Keith's field. Have a blast at the Corfe Castle bash👍 Liquid grease, I'm just happy my steering box has lubricant in it now, and a bung in the filler hole, a few days before DATC i discovered it had neither ! 😡. The 'specialist' who the van was with when i first bought...

    What Oil ? ? ?

Many moons ago i was sold GL5 g/box (by a Triumph 'specialist') oil for my Triumph Vitesse Mk2 . I suffered for years with a stoggy, stiff, orrible gear change till someone enlightened me GL5 was unsuitable. Put bog standard GL4 in and within a few hundred yards it felt like a new gearbox. So...

    What Oil ? ? ?

Also, modern oils can be too 'slippy' for the syncro rings in a lot of 'classic' gearboxes. This makes gear changes feel like you've filled the box with bostik, ask me how i know 🙄

    Loose fuel inlet (lucky escape)

You could wire the fuel hose clip next the carb to something near and solid.

    What Oil ? ? ?

🤔 Hmm, i'd get your spare box recon'd if it were me. Anyways, the elusive red bung turned up whilst the van was up the road being MOT'd 👍 Odd thing this morning,as i pulled away i had a 2 second power cut, as if you'd took a battery lead off momentarily, hasn't done it since. Anywayz, see you...

    Close call, i think

I've read a few things lately about steering box woe's, this got me thinking 🤔 i got the feeling lately my steering felt slightly 'tighter'. When i first bought the van 4 years ago i had a few urgent jobs done by a 'specialist', one was to adjust the steering box, i was informed they had filled...

Parts Wanted H4 headlights and brighter bulbs for rear lights 1971 DC?

I'd fit led stop tails and indicators, vast improvement and they use less juice and so take the load off your brake pressure switches too. Headlights, again leds are vastly superior imo. To ensure good quality stuff go to Classic Car LED's, very good for advice etc if you need it.

    Dormobile and leisure battery questions

I removed one of those passenger seat cookers from my van, I've still got if anyone wants it , rattled on the move and i don't want to cook inside. The gas bottle was under the small seat behind the drivers seat with a vent hole in the floor, like a plug hole, gas is heavier than air.
