    Underneath Squeaking

Big squirt of WD40 on the rear shocks and on the rubber boots. Squeaking gone for now. :)

    Underneath Squeaking

Tried pressing the brakes but it's not making a difference. The squeaking is mainly from the back of the van. Went over a bigger speed bump this afternoon and it was really loud, jumped on the back bumper it creaked. Shock absorbers are fairly new.

    Underneath Squeaking

I drove back in torrential rain and towards the end of the journey I heard some squeaking coming from underneath. I've taken the van out a couple of times since, it starts quiet, then gets really loud and a bit worrying...squeaking from all four corners I think? So CV boots, shocks, brakes or...

    Trouble starting when hot

Done a 200 mile trip down to the south coast this week. 6 hour journey fully loaded, 50-55 mph including 2-3 breaks at the services for 45 mins each. The van had trouble starting when the engine was still hot, turning over but not kicking in. I believe it's the fuel evaporating in the carbs...

Did you consider twin carb with the 1776?

    Wee White Westy

Picturesque drive to the MOT, passed with flying colours. Reassuring to know that the MOT man was impressed. :) Treated the van to a couple of upgrades, acceleration was always a bit sluggish, fitted Butty's Bit throttle kit and it has really tightened up the pedal, I love it. Also thought...

    Scored piston

Thought I would give you an update on this. We're not exactly sure of the cause because it might have been a few things. Leaking aftermarket fuel pump, but managed to track down a NOS OG fuel pump, so hopefully that won't happen again. A loose dizzy, causing timing issues. The deck height on...

    Monty the Red Campervan

Not sure why they call it a headbanger locker, everyone is sleeping the wrong way round.

    1971 Westy

Oooh nice, love to see some interior pics.

    Scored piston

It's possible that the carbs weren't set up right, I was a bit nervous getting it onto a rolling road so soon after the rebuild. I'll need to have a look with the rest of your questions.

    Scored piston

Newly rebuilt 1776 engine with 1600 miles on the clock loses all power on motorway. The engine has been stripped back to find a hole in the piston and light scoring on the rest of them. From what I understand this could have been caused by the carbs running rich, excess fuel washing away the...

    paint protection

Option one, prepare yourself to spend more than your budget and for it to take twice as long as quoted, there's always hidden nasties. Option two, make sure there is a detailed history of the restoration. This site is a good place to check the history and to buy. Option three, you could try...

    Sun Canopy

Just ordered one of these canvas tarps with some Vango adjustable poles and awning clips from JK to attach to the side of the van if necessary...

Wanted: Original painted (light grey) commercial hubcaps.

The WW site have stated it wrong then since they are claiming up to 1970 for L345. I fancy a set of grey hub caps. My tinware looks a very close match to silver grey L70X, it's powder coated RAL 7037 Dusty Grey.

Wanted:- TMI new front seat covers

They are not tan, possibly beige. Order a colour swatch from VW Heritage and find a piece of material on the back of your seat which hasn't been exposed to the sun. By the way, I've been waiting 16 months to get a driver's seat cover that fits from TMI. I would honestly look elsewhere.
