Beetle to buy or not to buy

Assuming it doesn't need £3000+ of body work. I saw a beautiful minter 1964 Beetle, failed its MOT because it was rotting from the inside. Legal case now, purchased for £16K

fuel filler neck size 55mm? which cap/cork?

The 70mm VW heritage one is for an early so I would assume it fits the original fuel cap. I bought one this week, but will have a look later to see if it fits ok. Just scrape that old sealer off..looks white and powdery from memory.

    Classic VW Garage Map

The original map got hacked or lost by google. I started rebuilding the map, but miraculously found it again in a google search and I've updated the new url. The map is no longer editable by anyone, so if you have a recommendation, please add it to the thread below and I will update it. No...

SWF Silver Grey Wiper Blades Rubber

On their third swipe. I got the MOT guy to replace it, but I have a feeling they replaced the wrong one. Can't confirm it happened to two rubbers.

    Accuspark Ignition

That's a good price so cheers for the link. I've been offered one through the forum assuming it all goes through. Trying to avoid buying from Europe to avoid a week long wait, need something urgently. sean69, I've been told that it is worth upgrading to the next one up.

SWF Silver Grey Wiper Blades Rubber

I have a set of the NOS SWF wiper arms which were being sold recently, but the rubber lasts about two seconds. Does anyone know which modern rubber fits these wiper blades?

    Accuspark Ignition

My accuspark ignition died after very short use. Deciding whether to replace with another or go the whole hog and upgrade to a 123 RV ignition system instead. So how long has your accuspark lasted you? Was I unlucky?

    Wee White Westy

The road to nowhere. Big exciting day, oil leaks all fixed and engine put back together, interior finished and looking smart, auto fire extinguisher installed and solenoid all in. Finally drive it off across the Fens only to find that I can't drive over 30 mph, something isn't right. Suspect...

    Insurance Agreed Values

Either Classic Line or Carole Nash, I switched....they use Equity Red Star and Marker Study.

    Insurance Agreed Values

The agreed value is only valid for two years. What is market value? The cost of replacing it today with a bus of similar quality which is going to be the same as my assessor's valuation? :?

    Cherished insurance

Same price and service as my Carole Nash insurance.

    Insurance Agreed Values

I heard today that an agreed value can work against you, in the sense that the agreed value is the maximum amount that an insurer will pay out. If you don't have an agreed value, you can argue that the bus is worth more and point to current market prices. In contrast, I've also heard that an...

    BUS PRICES

I'm going to start printing Mondeo T shirts, I feel that a big new scene is about to happen.

    New ply headlining

Mine was sanded down with an industrial sander before I applied the Osmo oil. I only did one coat, but it's a finishing product so I wouldn't add anything over it.

    Fuel type

    Super unleaded has no ethanol, so it will be kinder to your petrol tank and rubber hoses, not to mention the fire risk if not maintained. http://www.groups.tr-register.co.uk/wessex/ethanol-update.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    BUS PRICES

Nothing on that list for me, fashions are sad as ****. I assumed your bus had to be lowered with polished alloys to be in the scene.

    BUS PRICES

The restorers are pushing the prices up. I looked closely at current prices when I got mine evaluated by a private motor assessor. To replace a perfectly restored Westy will cost over 25K, that is from imported project to finished van.

    Security

There are other old skool ways of breaking into a car, but how many younger thieves know this method? The smashed window technique is very common near me, I see broken glass all the time by the road. The film is cut to size. This is it in action, although this particular firm now longer fits it...

    Security

I read about a bus which had been recently stolen, the thieves smashed the quarter light and gained entry..easy enough! Has anyone tried Supa Glass? It is a super thick clear polyester film which prevents the glass being smashed.

    Automatic Fire Extinguishers
