Initial engine break-in setup — running rough

I’m no expert, but the fact that your revs pretty much don’t react (increase) when opening the carb suggests something is off, but it is running, so I guess that is part of the battle! Do you have a timing gun - I would suggest getting that checked out if you’re unsure of the timing light...

    Rear Hatch door guide question

As above, some photos and some more details would be useful to better describe your issue. The wedges shouldn’t be relied upon for tailgate alignment - they are just there to stop it from flexing and moving when closed. The best way to check the issue is to eliminate anything that could be...

    Wheels

Just check that the nuts are the correct profile. I’m sure bus bolts are curved as standard, not tapered, but it might just be that your aftermarket wheels have a different mating face on them to standard.

    won't start when hot?

When you say it won’t start, what is the issue? Turns over but won’t fire? Won’t turn over or slow to crank?

    Refitting my gearstick.

If I remember rightly, underneath the rounded end is a spring. It might be that your pin / spring is jamming up, so strip it, clean it, re grease it and re-assemble. This should allow it to move more freely and allow you to push it home into the slot without a second pair of hands under the bus.

Parts Wanted Westfalia / Gadget style towbar

If you’re willing to go with a modern equivalent that works with your exhaust and doesn’t mean moving your bumper position, I can thoroughly recommend the one CSP make. There is a flaw in the repro one which mean you can’t attach something like a bike rack which relies on clamping solidly to the...

    Gear selection adjustment ?

It’s something I’ve wondered myself; the last front bush I bought was a disgraceful quality, but in fairness the vendor did send another better one to replace it (makes you wonder why they had two types on the shelf?) Even that one had a good amount of slop in it, and a few years later it has...

    Clutch Noise - Following Replacement

Just thought I’d update this thread as I was definitely giving some bum information! So the vanishing noise I experienced turned out to be the failure of one of the retaining clips that holds the release bearing to the fork. I’ve done a bit of reading on The Samba, and it points towards the...

    Camper Jam Weston's Park 1st - 3rd July

Always enjoy CamperJam, and it seems to be growing in size. Hopefully it doesn’t get too big for it’s boots, but the range of food vendors is fantastic, and plenty of trade stalls to occupy one’s time. Really disappointed that the Syncro rides weren’t there this year - not sure what the story...

Fitting convex glass into door mirror

For reference, I have contacted Auto Wares yesterday and added everything I’ve put above. The photos are with Steve to review but he has already reached out to me with an initial response. I’ve certainly seen far more damning comments made by others on this forum relating to products 😉

Fitting convex glass into door mirror

Hi Graham, fair point, it’s always good to hear other people’s experiences in case mine was a one-off. Judging by the photos of the product on Auto Wares page, I suspect not, but I will reach out to them for a response. However, I will post some photos as it is only fair to share more details...

Fitting convex glass into door mirror

I’ll post up some pictures later when I strip the one I haven’t done yet, and compare it to an original one. People can make their own minds up if they want to splash the cash then. I will say that the view in the mirror is much improved, but based on the quality of the metal parts, I’m not sure...

Fitting convex glass into door mirror

Just in case anyone comes across this post when wanting to fit convex glass, I would strongly advise against the Auto Wares ones. The quality is really pretty poor, and the design is flawed compared to an original one, meaning the nut on the mirror arm will eventually loosen over time if the...

    Bumper mounts?

I’d agree with the tow bar / hitch idea - the bolt hole spacing look very similar to the ones on our tow bar. Kinda missing the long bit in between though 😂

    Routing Fuel lines

Just have a consideration for keeping any restrictions in the lines similar on each side. I.e. as an extreme example, don’t put 20 elbows feeding one carb, and none on the other side. Every difference will contribute to a slight drop in pressure. Assuming you need to make a 180 degree bend at...

Raise lowered van, but no adjustment left

Ah I think we’re talking crossed purposes. I was suggesting that ignoring the preload (because the assumption is that it is set up with the same angular difference between top and bottom arms when using the adjusters to a stock setup) there is no change to the stiffness of the springs...

Raise lowered van, but no adjustment left

I didn’t think it would make any difference to the stiffness of the ride, as ultimately all you’re doing by moving the adjusters is rotating the leaves - have I missed something? I appreciate that where discomfort can creep in is when ball joints max-out, or things start hitting the wheel arch...

    Camper Jam Weston's Park 1st - 3rd July

We’ll be there, just hopefully I get my tinware back from the powder coaters in time to fit it all and actually be able to attend in the camper 😱 I notice the club camping area has moved for us Early Bay folk - the last time this happened I think everyone just decamped over to the SSVC area as...

    European Insurance Cover……BE WARNED.

Unless I have some kind of Grandfather rights with the policy due to the length of time I’ve held it? It is indeed a multi car policy along with our home insurance. We have an agreed valuation with them, so they’ve got pictures and details of it, yet never been flagged as a concern. Similarly...

    European Insurance Cover……BE WARNED.

That seems a bit odd because ours is a US import…?
