    Tools Needed To Remove Wheels

Another useful learning tool are the Rick Higgins 'Bug Me' videos. As the titles suggest they concentrate on Bugs, but give a great run down on all things air-cooled. The first is routine and general maintenance for beginners. http://www.bugmevideo.com Each title has a preview to give you a feel.

    Won't idle and more

Check the timing ... could be too far advanced. Is the fuel actually getting into the carb .... you don't say?

    Tools Needed To Remove Wheels

A couple of suggestions ... make sure you buy a decent quality (deepish) socket for the breaker bar. Also, if you do decide to get the tyre shop to tighten, then make sure they have the impact gun set to the correct torque. My experience is that they generally set the torque way too high if you...

Heater Cable removal - any thoughts please?

Does anyone have any tips for heater cable removal and replacement? I am finally getting round to replacing mine .. the ends have broken off at some time in the past and I can't move the cables in the tubes at all. To date have tried squirting Plusgas (as much as I can - difficult with the...

    Insulation question

Don't forget, changing the air is a good way of avoiding humid air. An open window to allow some venting will help massively. Again, in modern building construction, all rooms have built in trickle ventilation to change the air within the fabric for this very reason. In the passive haus...

    Insulation question

basic rap on insulation .... Warm air can hold a lot of moisture. When warm air comes into contact with colder air it cools and can no longer hold the moisture - so condensation occurs. Normal condition in van when cold. Inside is warm air ... air comes into contact with metal/glass cold...

Oil Temperature sensor/gauge - Thoughts please?

I found this link on Volkszone and this ... I assume that both are talking about the Save My Bug? http://www.geneberg.com/article.php?ArticleID=239 http://www.geneberg.com/article.php?ArticleID=240

Oil Temperature sensor/gauge - Thoughts please?

I assume that in the sump it will always have a constant coat of oil on the sensor, so will be accurate as far as consistency of reading is concerned? presumably you could test the sensor in water if you wanted to know the calibration factor? I suppose my question on the 'save my bug' sensor...

Which sensor position have you gone for? Presumably not the dip stick one?

Oil Temperature sensor/gauge - Thoughts please?

I am considering fitting an oil temp sensor and new gauge to my 1600 twin port. Does anyone out there have any thoughts or recommendations as to what I should be considering ... and why? Am I right that whatever I choose ... it is not about the actual temperature indicated, but more about...

    Oilbath Air Cleaner

I have now got hold of the right Oil Bath air cleaner for my van. The next problem is that a past owner has cut out the stand which it sits on next to the battery recess. Is there a simple way to replace this .... has anyone overcome this problem and if so how? I don't have access to welding kit...

    Oilbath Air Cleaner

I have a beetle oilbath airfilter fitted to my 1600TP which came with the van. It is the later type which has the diaphragm located just above the warm air intake spout which has the vacuum takeoff. However the lid to the filter does not have the spigots to connect either to the vacuum port from...

    1600 Twinport Tune up question

Thought people might be interested in this reply I got from Tim at Volkzbitz who provided me with my refurbished 34 pict 3 ... It sounds like the carb flooding either too much pressure, debris in the float valve, or it could be the fuel line getting too hot. When the fuel line gets hot, the...

    1600 Twinport Tune up question

Just realised I wrote 30 pict 34 instead of 34 pict 3. I assume you realised this. Will try some of the things you suggest to see what happens. Any ideas why it would not fire immediately when warm? Tim
