    What Camshaft?

Hey Gav :) Ok, so based on your info, here`s my suggestion and why: Cam- Stock. Yes, stock cam. Why? Because you never rev past 4k rpm, and the stock cam maxes power up to around that ish. Plus, there`s no other cam that will give you as much torque down low as the stock cam. Also is free...

    What Camshaft?

Hey Ozzie, good to talk to you too matey:D All good, just crazy busy at work!! I am still helping people but mainly on Facebook lol

    What Camshaft?

Hi  The cam will dictate the behaviour of your engine; it will give you loads of low end torque, but sacrifice power up top, could give you good power up top(having matching heads, carbs and exhaust) at the cost of much less low end torque; or you could have a cam that is a...

    Laurie Pettit Engine

I had rebuilt a Laurie WBX 2l crank converted engine, i can help with any info needed, just PM me. Abel

    Cylinder head replacement

My suggestion is to get a pair of AA500`S, they have a modern combustion chamber which will make the engine more efficient, and also use long reach spark plugs, therefore there`s more material in that area reducing greatly the chances of cracking. Call Cool Air, speak to Vince and tell them i...

    Cylinder Heads

These can be later fuel injected heads(if your engine is a dual port). Are the spark plugs long reach? 1300`s had 35.5x32mm(dp). Abel

    Alternator belt length

Sorry Sparky to take so long to reply  I don`t have one of the bigger ones anymore, so i can`t measure it. But i did compare when i had and one was slightly bigger than the normal ones. They look exactly the same right up to the very edge of the pulley. I also had one bigger pulley from...

    Oil pressure relief valve stuck.

Who said we can’t learn everyday? That’s some good tip right there if you don’t have the tap or tool👌 Abel

    Alternator belt length

Sparky, i also thought for a long time that the pulleys were the same, but there’s actually two sizes of stock crank pulley.🤔 I have had both with me and could compare the size difference. With the bigger one, the 912 belt fits perfectly and does not require the removal of all the shims to make...

    John Maher engine

He is one of the best engine builders of VWAC engines possibly in the world, even in America he`s well known, so if you have the chance (and the money) to get one of his engines, go for it as you won`t regret it ;) Abel :)

    Fuel/Oil Leak

Look at the color of your plugs, if they are too black, that means too much fuel is going past the carb, either by wrong jetting or float/needle/fuel pressure issues :msn4: . Abel :)

    Cylinder Head Deflector Plates

As sparkywig says i also agree, there`s a bulletin that says the type 3 tin should not be used as it would reduce the cooling on a type 1 engine. If it was better, VW themselves would have used it and improved cooling of their AC engines :D Abel :)

JP group - classic line heads????

These heads are all i am using now when going for 35.5x32mm valves.😁 They have a lot of free cooling passages, have the long reach spark plugs, the modern heart shaped combustion chamber and the material is much better than Empi and million times better than Autolinea(try machining one of...

    Should I buy?

J, that stat is damaged. They should be fully compressed when in good nick. A common mistake is to test it out of the bracket, they sometimes extend too much and get damage. Always should be tested in the bracket to prevent overextend👌 Abel

What’s the best replacement fuel hose?

+1 for the Gates hoses👍 I had installed the R9 in a clients Bus, when he came for a service after a year, all the hoses were cracked!! I was shocked to see it after so little use😱😱 Abel

What is the difference between these two Dynamos?

Craig, my 68 Bug had the same dynamo. Also some 70’s 1200 Bugs have them. Look on the markings, if it says 14V 30A it’s a 12V unit😃 Abel

    Weber ICT carbs

I have never tested or thought of doing this to those carbs, but i saw a test with stacks on Kadrons and they made a considerable amount of power more than the normal air cleaners. Look at Kaddieshack.com and you will find the article, quite interesting👍 Abel🤓

    opinion - new engine

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yep, they do not expand as much allowing for tighter cylinder wall to piston clearances thus making more power and are harder than normal cast pistons therefore surviving more abuse, but not great with detonation because of being harder makes them more brittle. That’s why correct timing...
