    How Hot Is Your DipStick!!

So I continue to try and narrow things down and before I go off and attempt to make the carb run a little richer, I thought I would check the thermostat is opening the fins/flaps on the fan housing. Problem is, I don't seem to have one http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=61228"...

Do All Vans Have A Thermostat?

I have been having engine running hot issues (please see this post here http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=61185" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) so have been checking all the tinware and cooling system. Been reading about the thermostat and how this opens the flaps on...

    How Hot Is Your DipStick!!

Thanks all, checked the insulation and all seems OK. I can hear a good strong sucking noise coming from the outside air vents so assume van is working well? I am now thinking that the engine is running lean as the carb was recently replaced so maybe that is the next thing to try. I will also...

PICT 34 - Engine Running Leam

To prevent the engine running too lean and reduce the air flow into a PICT 34 carb, do I just turn the volume screw anti clockwise?  How do I know when I have turned it enough? Many thanks

    How Hot Is Your DipStick!!

Hi, sounds like you know from bad experience!!!! All tin wear seems to be accounted for. My timing was out and is now set OK, could this make that much of a different? I ran the bus this morning and it seemed cooler but I now have a complex about the heat and am not sure if I am reading too...

    Van Stuttering When Cold

Just an update to close this thread with how this problem was resolved - As I the engine needed a bit of a service, I changed the, plugs, leads, distributor, rotor arm, points, condenser and re timed the engine and the problem seems to have disappeared. I will update this thread if it re appears.

    How Hot Is Your DipStick!!

On our way back from Cornwall last week, we stopped off for a bit of a break after running the van for about 2 hours. It was a very warm evening but I was surprised at how hot the engine bay was and nearly burnt my hand on the dip stick when checking the oil. Even after the van had sat for...

    Van Stuttering When Cold

Seem to have a problem with my van stuttering and lose of power when cold. Everything has been running fine for the last 400 miles but when i start the van, for the first 5 mins, it ticks over fine but when I try to accelerate, the revs start to build up and then nothing, lose of power. It...

    Lost Oil, Push Rod Seals?

Marvel, After a bit more investigation, it turns out, this is the same thing that happens to me!! I may have got away with it a little lighter than you as it seems at the moment, only one set of seals went. Two cylinders tested and the compression is very good. Other 2 cylinders being...

    Lost Oil, Push Rod Seals?

Well Marvel funny you should say that! Today, it is off to Midland Early Bay to be fixed. Before it went, I checked the oil and noticed it was over the full mark which was interesting as the last time I checked, it was just over the minimum mark. Quick email to Graham at Midland Early Bay to...

    Lost Oil, Push Rod Seals?

jonboylaw, many thanks, that doesn't sound too bad a job. We have decided to get the van back home via Greenflag and then take it from there. More worried about what caused this in the first place now....maybe we will never know!

    Lost Oil, Push Rod Seals?

Hi Ozziedog, we have had the van for 3 years now and it was renovated for us. I guess we have done about 6000 miles in total. Not had any problems for a while now and this just happened on the journey down. It may have been a problem for a while then. I checked the other side and I can see...

    Lost Oil, Push Rod Seals?

Maybe a bit beyond me so trying to get hold of South West VW to see they can help. If we can't get hold of them, does anyone know anyone in the North Devon area who could help with this? Before we set off, the only thing we noticed was a poor tickover as the twin Empire ICT 34's seemed a little...

    Lost Oil, Push Rod Seals?

Can't see oil the other side however, just replaced the rocker cover gasket and ran it up the road and oil is everywhere again so it must be coming out from where you mentioned. Nightmare, stuck on a caravansite in Woolacombe in Devon thinking what next to do?
