    Replacement engine

Use Millars Ethanol inhibitor. The ethanol oxidises the carbs insides. Had dead cylinders and stripped down Solexes which were all gunged up. Bought an ultrasonic bath and grey milky crap came out of all the ports. The carbs were like new after that.

    Fuel guage issues

The beetle will fit but is 20 quid compared to A LOT more from VW sellers. I have the above type in a 65 Beetle.

    Fuel guage issues

This is the location which is near the back seat where the floor curves down. Looks a bit small. Mine is about the size of the orange cover and allows you to look inside the tank too. PS I have a new fuel sender in its box on marketplace...

EARLYBAY Exclusive - Deluxe Tachometers 68-79 - On hold

From the early days I was always told a tacho is a waste of money. You get tuned to your engine by the way it pulls and revs (if you haven't ipod thingys on) It is almost impossible to over rev a standard engine unless you are working a full race version.

    Firing order…??

Install a US made FACET electric pump and you have instant fuel pressure when the ignition is on. You have a tidier engine bay with one less fuel pipe and a deleted/blanked off mechanical pump.

    Grating feeling from steering column

Jack it up and see if grating noise is actually coming from the box. I have that noise but it is the steering column rubbing on the steering tube on left /right lock because there's no bearing / bushing on the bottom of tube. Another job! As for recommending grease it mixed with the oil...

    Grating feeling from steering column

Use grease. I know a VW place that uses that and no problems. Remember your front wheel bearings are greased so a slow rotational steering box can take that. If you are in any doubt use hi shear grease. And it can be filled with a grease gun too.

Filling the screenwash bottle without flooding the floor!

Forget all the contraptions. Two nozzles as fitted by VW with twin jets are adequate. The standard air is okay but electric pump is better. Keep it simple!!

    Cab Door Seal Question

Genuine seals make the sliding door not flush too.

Filling the screenwash bottle without flooding the floor!

You cant over fill because it has an internal neck to stop that. On the other hand install an electric washer pump and either run off a remote button via ignition or modify wiper stalk to run the pump.

    Tinware paint

Enamel paint is fine and also used 2 pack on tin ware (beetle). Don't waste your money on powder coating as most is hidden anyway. Clean everything thoroughly, prime and use a rattle can with multiple coats. There is no problem with that either....and you have the satisfaction of doing it your...
