4" Narrowed Beam, Balljoint Dropped Spindles, AVO Coilovers & Disc Brakes

Hi Austin - apologies for slow reply. You are correct, I don't have a servo. I've never driven a drum brake van so don't know how it compares but I would say the pedal needs quite a bit of pressure compared to a modern vehicle. It did stop reasonably well if you stood on the brakes, but not as...

    Hi Lee - no, they won't - they're 71-72 disc specific.

Calipers were refurbed items around 5000 miles ago. I also have adjustable AVO coilovers to go with this setup. Recently removed...

    Wagenwest dropped spindles any good?

How low do you want to go? On a '68 in most cases you want to go K&L. There is no reason not to. Split beams bolt straight on and you can keep your old one in the loft as a pension. Have you thought about what you're going to do at the back?

    Flywheel bolt vs impact gun

Better to rent a suitable torque wrench I would have thought.

    hamerite ????

There was a fad a few years ago for painting old cars with Rustoleum (US branded paint) diluted 20:1 with white spirit, with a lot of coats. Rustoleum isn't officially available in the UK but is similar to Hammerite. ATEOTD if Hammerite was a good thing to paint cars with all the body shops...

What's going on with my arches??

Quite right, but we've all heard of weirdness around model change time.

What's going on with my arches??

Depending on when in 1970 the bus was built the rears may be correct, i.e. it might be a '71 MY.

    Understanding Engines

Keith Seume's bible is very good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aircooled-Engine-Interchange-Handbook-Aftermarket/dp/1870979796/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1363907948&sr=8-5

Meet poppy - Updated 20/07/2015 mot'd and back on the road

I have been in a similar situation re: engine - I was looking at T25s last year I was so sick of it. Now running in an Autotechniks built 2110. Can't wait until it's run in. As per 5erge's experiences not cheap but what price peace of mind? Hang in there.

    1776 Engine

No substitute for cubes! I've got a 2110. It's awesome. I pity those with puny 1776 engines. Oh, and this IS a knob waving contest. I think Tristan wins so far. Seriously, I'm not sure what the fuel economy is like yet. The 1776's may yet have the last laugh.

    Orange & white deluxe. Ninove.

Great colour! Have been tempted to have mine painted down to the beltline. Mine's a fake deluxe by the way - was just a microbus, a previous owner converted it.

    Wheels and tyres help !!!

Not sure about that. A big engine would benefit from one and the modern ones are shallow so don't effect ground clearance. Mine isn't lower than the moustache bar. I've got 155/55 on the front on 15x4.5" and 185/65 on the rear on 15x6". My rear has been redrilled for Porsche pattern an I've got...
