    Gutted.

Thanks again for support and kind words, it really does help. Awaiting Engineer’s report to insurance now and then see what they say. Dale, you don’t work at Pilks Lathom do you? That’s where I work, that would be a coincidence. One funny thing, my daughter caught the near side of the front...

    Gutted.

Thanks for kind words. We’re in Lancashire Matt, it happened on a junction/bridge over the M6, which was closed for a while. About a mile from home. A lot of people saw me cry yesterday…

    Gutted.

My lovely early bay caught fire yesterday and ended up burned out. Engine stuttered so I pulled over, a few tiny flames to left of carb, but I had nothing with me to put on it. Highways agency were there in 30s while I was ringing 999, but they don’t carry extinguishers, not a single vehicle...

Disc brake front conversion is it worth it ?

I've had quite a few times when less fade would have been a very good thing indeed. It has been a while since I drove a late bay, but from memory, brakes were not dissimilar to my CSPs. HTH, Bri

    rear drum part q

Anyone know where I can get the pin/spring/retaining cup that sits between rear brake backplate and shoe? They seem to be available in kits but everyone I tried is out of stock. Maybe the same part is used on other vehicles? I'm missing one and brakes are awaiting this one damn part to complete...

    Brakes- bleeding or other prob?

Found what the problem was. Not sure what order they happened in, but found rear O/S cylinder broke near mounting so was loose, small amount of brake fluid in drum, and friction material completely disappeared from shoes. Not too difficult to put right. Nothing to do with having changed the...

    starting a 34 pict

I find mine starts best from warm by slowly pressing the accel pedal to floor (to minimise fuel added by accel pump on carb), cranking until it fires, which it usually does quite quickly (but not as quick as from cold), then releasing pedal. HTH, bri

Disc brake front conversion is it worth it ?

I put CSP discs on the front of ours earlier this year. At first I wasn’t amazed by the difference and started thinking that 900 odd notes might have been better spent elsewhere, but as they have bedded in a bit I have found that I am much more confident on the road than I was. I have another...

    Brakes- bleeding or other prob?

Got back home yesterday after 130 miles of motorway with virtually no brakes- not good for the nerves. The day before I went away for a week in the van, I spotted that brake lights weren’t working and quickly traced it to the switch. Luckily I had a spare off an old M/C, so I swapped them...

    Dinitrol behind window seals??

Can’t believe it is so long since original post. Thanks for responses. I put some around windscreen to start with, most of the other windows will be out before long anyway. In case it helps anyone else, I used a small syringe body (the tube bit with the plunger, not the needle bit), filled it...

Hand brake problem on 68 and method of adjusting rear brake

I had an MOT advisory on handbrake last year, so before test this year I roughed up the linings (they were glazed) and same on inside of drum. I found an easy way to grease the cables was to disconnect at lever end, pull through drum backplate as far as they would go (mine wouldn’t come all the...

    new paint incompatability

Aaah. Barcoat! thanks for the info, seems to be available in rattle can as well so will give it a go on next job (too many to choose from...). I thought bare metal best for this bit of roof. Van used to have a front rack on and PO was a short-ar$e, so a lot of things have scratched the paint...
