    South African busses

I bought a sa bus, I agree with all the above. Mine was from Pretoria so relatively rust free, but had questionable repairs, and evidence of a hard life! After a lot of mechanical repairs, not to mention all new seals and a really good clean it has served us well so far. I would rather have to...

    Align boring!

I have a crankcase that needs a thrust cut and possibly a line bore, there's back and forth movement of the thrust bearing, any recommendations, experiences? Thanks in advance

    Virgin engine builder!

Thanks Abel, you confirm my fears! The case and crank need sorting too, there is play in the thrust bearing saddle, so a thrust cut is required. So this cheap rebuild is fast becoming anything but!!!

    Restraining spare wheel

Mine had a strap that went around the wheel and the two brackets, a bit like a luggage or ratchet strap, holds it nice and firm. Lost it somehow and now use said luggage strap.

    Virgin engine builder!

I aquired an engine a while ago (it was cheap!) it's an Ad code engine based on an as21 case with an alleged low mileage. It was a vw recon engine (has vw stamp with 'recycled' symbol on it. It has all genuine vw crank etc Bearings showed some sign of wear so putting new ones in. Now, I have...

    Flywheel

Thanks for the reply, they are both gen vw items, so good to know that it's not too critical, there is an oil or water pattern on both too which I'm pretty sure line up.

    Flywheel

I got my nice friendly local garage to remove the flywheel bolt on an engine, and they seperated the flywheel too. Is there any way of knowing the position it was fitted so that it can go back the same, or do I have to get it all balanced again?

    Sliding door floppy lock catch

I used one of my wife's hair bobbles (elastic hair tie thing) and wrapped it around the lever, it stays where you put it now. Works for me :)

upgraded from a t4 caravelle, do miss the 2.5i 5cylinder petrol engine though, got plenty of looks as people turn round to see what was making all that noise  2" stainless straight thru exhaust made a lovely sound. Get plenty of smiles in the bay though and japanese tourists taking...
