    Which oil

I was in the US for a short time and I asked which brand/flavour of oil I should get there. I mentioned that in Europe, I use 15W50 or 20W50. I was almost flamed for that, the oil I should put is 5W30 because VW recommended SAE30. I ended up finding some 20W50 mineral on my own...

    Which oil

That's why with our buses it's best to stick to a "Classic" oil as rockers and tappets are not common on modern engines. Motul makes a great Classic, as does Morris.

No thermostat and no vents flaps

You can get new ones, and if they were to fail, it would be like the og ones (ie in "open" position, not in "closed" like the Brazilians). But they have to be shipped across the pond: https://www.awesomepowdercoat.com/vw-thermostats

    Don't see many of these...

And according to the ad, it's a Diesel. Which can't be true but that's another story, and yes we're not on latebay.com here. ;) https://www.leboncoin.fr/offre/utilitaires/2442198584

Servo problem with new Weber ict 34’s

The balance pipe should go between the manifolds, not the carbs. The vacuum port on the carb is for the ignition advance. If you have CBPerf manifolds, they have a port for this. If you have the short Empis, they need drilling. I run the servo on mine off a T between the manifolds and 0...

Hot Engine and Oil light on advice needed

Same. 20W50 is good for our old engines. Thick enough when it's cold so it won't leak everywhere you park, and thick once hot because there's a lot of play in there. ;)

Stock height bus - Tyre size recommendation for 15 inch rims

If you're stock height, you could increase the height of the tire a little. Which would make the engine run a little slower, like a poor man's CP gearbox. MOT might complain though.

    Does anyone remember ?

Still works, but you need an account (it's free) to use it. There is also the very popular https://vw-camper.fr website :)

    Interesting bit of film ..

but the question is: was it possible to save this bus if it had not been dipped? If it all disappeared, maybe it wasn't structurally sound in the first place me think.

    Front speakers.

In mine, I made a bracket to have them under the dash vents. The idea was to avoid any alterations to the van, and also to make them not visible from outside - the radio is also hidden under the glove box. They are 45° down, not vertical, and still do a good job from there. I also have a bigger...

Me & my Bay on VW UK YouTube Channel

Nice Timo, did they give you the id4 for free at the end? ;)

    Hello from Germany :-)

    Nice bus... and workshop indeed!

    Revol Engineering

They've been presenting it on FB for a while. The idea is nice but you're only bypassing the steering box, all the rods and other bits of VW hardware stay the same. You also end up with a rack&pinion installed sideways, with a protruding part towards the front. The solution from the Netherlands...

Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone £10/day from June 2023

The two different offices dealing with the emission zones didn't have the same year cutoff. I was old enough for the ULEZ, but the LEZ wanted me to be from before 1973. My van has a regular registration, not historic, and it's not a UK v5, we just came for the summer for work. It worked out in...

Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone £10/day from June 2023

As related in another thread, London is weird. Our 1976 late bay was allowed to drive in the ULEZ after I registered it with the authorities. But it was not allowed to drive in the LEZ which surrounds the ULEZ... and it was a different admin which refused its registration. Go figure. We ended...

    Best mod.... new gearbox

In France, if your bus doesn't have the correct "reinforced tyre/light trucks", it will fail at the MOT.

    Fuel in the oil sump

That's neat. Having a pair of those carburetors, that's been my fear for a while - mech pump and fuel pressure regulator. But that's a safe add-on you have here.
