    ONE FOR THE ENGINE BUILDERS

Personally I wouldn't bother with the shims on rebuild. I'm sure most of us have engines without dished pistons and no barrel shim (almost all recon's are that way anyway) The compression ratio even with the non dished pistons is very low and its one of the reasons that VW's were so popular in...

Has anybody used a chassis tilter?

Basic roller was bought off ebay , but crossbar linking two rollers together was an upgrade I made to stop the whole thing trying to twist. I also added the support legs that bolt on the bumper mounts. Made it one heck of a lot easier and safer to jack up.

Has anybody used a chassis tilter?

I took engine and gearbox out to reduce weight , removed battery and covered over the brake fluid reservoir. If I was doing it again I would probably not bother with removing the gearbox. I also felt much happier with the supporting legs that you can see in the picture

    Complete RHD roof section

Complete tintop roof from a 72 bus. Will fit all early bays from the vents up. Roof is pretty much rust free and would suit someone needing gutter repair sections :) or a complete roof transplant  £100 but you need to collect it (Southampton area)

    Twin carbs or not??

Personally I have a stock setup , dual ICT's and Dellorto 36's in my current busses Dual ICT's will give you a bit more go and about 2 - 3 MPG more in my experience. I wouldn't hestitate to recommend them for a stock 1600 The Dellorto 36's are lovely carbs and my favourites, but I do have a...

    Whats your day job!

When I'm not messing about with the busses, I pretend to be the Technical Director for an Aerospace engineering business. Its actually quite good fun, but would be better to have a little more spare time. :)

rising fuel costs ? whose up for a peaceful protest

Odd how people post on a public chat forum and then find alternative views so unacceptable that they have to get personal. If you can't see the irony in driving a gas guzzling VW to protest about fuel prices then I suggest a deep breath and a little more sense of humour is required.

rising fuel costs ? whose up for a peaceful protest

Can't help thinking there is nothing to protest about here. Demand for oil is increasing, but stocks are finite so prices will inevitably rise. As for the government tax, its always possible to create enough political pressure that fuel duty will be reduced, but at the end of the day if we...

Finally took the plunge and rolled one

Guess it depends on the design of the roller frame , but I needed at least 2ft more than the height of the van.

Finally took the plunge and rolled one

Its the back end of a splitscreen doublecab. Front end is visible in my avatar. Interesting history on that one as its featured on US TV in a seriies called Mythbusters. It was owned by one of the presenters an used in a lot of the early serries in the filming. Not many people have seen the...

Finally took the plunge and rolled one

Thing that made it safer was the supporting legs clamped to the bumber mountings points on the chassis. Using these it could only ever fall back about 6 inches as I was jacking it up ( and up and up and up.... ) Was actually scapping the bus in the photo's. It really was beyong saving (and...
