    Swedish "fake early" SC

Earlybay's ('71 onwards) had flared rear arches anyway...I guess if you got a genuine pickup in '71/'72 it would have flared rears. I ditched them on mine and put early ones on...much nicer.

    Steve's 1971 Dormobile

Well, ours has been away since early January for welding and paint. Starting to really feel the need to put it back together again now though :|

    My 71 Bay resto project

...and the routering on the doors/worktops...difficult to do? And did you paint (spray) the black finish on all the doors/shelves?

    My 71 Bay resto project

Hey Alfie - can you do us all a favour and let us know where you get some of your stuff from like for example, the aluminium strips for the worktops/cupboards. As someone has said already, it all looks 'factory'. Great work!

    Whats your day job!

Her name then was Beth Attwood (now Brown) and I think she worked there with Kay Gibbons (now Watson). Do you remember them? Would have been some marketing type role they did.

    Whats your day job!

My wife worked at Mira (or Caradon Mira as she calls it) many, many years ago. How long you been there?

    Steve's 1971 Dormobile

One of the reasons for getting a Dormobile was we liked the layout, and it'll pretty much stay that way but using new materials. I'm going to use the original as a template and get some new wood/laminate for all the units, get a new fridge and ditch the cooler box and make that into a more...

    Steve's 1971 Dormobile

Went to see the progress yesterday. Most of the bottom half is in the final colour of Vauxhall Space Green (388) and the top half will be VW ‘Pastel White’ (L90D). I want to go for that mix of old and new throughout the project. All the pics are on the website...

    Rear seatbelt fixing point pictures

I got some custom made belts done at QuickFit Safety Belt Service http://www.quickfitsbs.com when I was doing my '67 Beetle (http://www.steve-brown.co.uk/MyOldCar/). Their website's not too good, but give them a call as they've done vans before.

    Change of day job?

With the other thread going ('Whats your day job!'), it got me thinking that I may have a choice on my hands in just under a year. We're expecting another baby in Nov (so that'll be 2 in total), but there's no way we can afford to put them both into nursery. We're both thinking of doing...

    Whats your day job!

I'm an applications engineer for HP (that's Hewlett-Packard not the sauce) based in Hungerford doing software stuff for digital photo kiosk systems like you see in Tesco, Boots, Sainsbury's etc.

    Dormobile Roll Call !

In Oct 1961, the Volkswagen Dormobile debuted at the Earl's Court Motor Show (obviously in the guise of a splittie). Dormobile continued their conversions through the 60's on the splittie then the '68 Bay was the first bay conversion incorporating the same Martin Walter roof (but moved forward...

BLIMEY! JK have early bay doghouse front tinware in!

Hope you realise, but in the top pic, the tin-ware is the wrong way round. That big hole should be at the back of #3 cylinder, not #1 where it is at the moment

What do i need to norrow my 71 bay front beam ???

There use to be a whole bunch of places that sold the end plates. I got mine from http://www.thebusstation.co.uk (I think). It's a horrible, messy job and you need to be pretty accomplished at welding. If I was to do it again...I'd buy a beam already done. Good luck!
