We would regularly travel all day, south of France to north of England only stopping for fuel - for us and the van lol We've got a pretty strong 1776 so most of that is at 65-70mph too.

Interested in selling the manifolds seperately?

I've got a pair of single port manifolds for Weber 34ICT's but i'm upgrading to a 1776 so i'm going twin port. In the interim i'm going to use the carbs so i obviously need some twin port manifolds. They were bought new last year, and used for about 500miles before my crankshaft snapped...

I had almost the exact same problem last year :( It turned out to be a small crack in the head, between the valves. It ticked over lovely, revved up lovely, but like you say, show it any sign of a hill and nothing... I would think your compression check should highlight if this is the case...

I tried this afternoon. Our on site mechanical contractor had a go - a fully coded welder nonetheless. It has cracked beyond the weld now due to the rate of heat transfer(and subsequent cooling) through the casting. I was hoping for too much i suppose :(

Obviously I'l buy two if no one has a spare, i realise it would be an odd thing to keep... :lol:

Stripping my engine and as i took the left carb off noticed the bottom mounting flange of the manifold has cracked and separated. Anyone got one they don't need, save me from buying a new set...please?

Thanks for the offer :D . It did confuse me a little which lead to a bit of digging. My last van, a '70 swedish import had two support 'stays' which consisted of a piece of box section with a bush on the side that ran up and down a fixed channel. The channel was fixed to the outer edge/sides...

I've no idea I'm afraid, these were fitted in the van when we bought it. Like I said, I think they look pretty cool, but I want to keep the misses happy ;)

They look like this fitted I think they look pretty sweet to be honest, but 'er indoors wants to change them. So, Alistair if you're interested pm me your address and i'll stick 'em in the post :)

They just slot straight in the same as the originals do. They pretty much operate the same too, twist the outside to open and close them etc. I've not got a picture with me but i can take one this afternoon and post it up. Now, I'll show you mine, if you show me yours.... :lol:
