ive swapped the 3 rib box for a 2 ltr 6 rib to match my new 1914 in my bay

i read the input shaft may need shortening!!!

i compared boxes, and they look fine, but just wondered if anyone knew if i needed to change it??

Answered this on thesamba, but by the magic of cut and paste:

Yep, input shaft needs shortening by about half an inch, as does gear shift rod. Also, you'll find the engine mount bar holes don't quite line up any more and will need a little persuasion. well worth doing though, lovely ratios for a 1915.

You just measure length of 3-rib input shaft and then out comes the trusty angle grinder! Just put one on a mates bus for which I'd built a 1915, went in fine, only to find gearbox was stuffed. Grr...

fred

so all we need to do is shorten the input shaft and gear shift rod, fiddle about a bit and were done???

ive used the 1600 starter, that just bolted right on, is that correct??

anything else, or is it that simple??

cheers fred

the bellhousing also has holes for the later gearbox mount, if your handy at welding and fabrication, its worth adding one in. Check kombiporsches thread on how to do it. Nice details and pics 8)

anyone else used an 091 with a type 1 engine??

getting conflicting advice, bit confused

a. change belhousing, input shaft and shorten gearshift rod

b. straight swap

c. cut down input shaft and shorten gearshift rod

also can i use the starter off the 1600 box

this is the info i got when i asked on vz http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=450906" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What year box is it? I cant remember off hand when the bell housing changed but I'll have a dig around, if its the deeper bell then you will need to get a later starter, the shaft can be either swapped easily enough or cut down and if your that far swap the bell for an earlier model that way you keep the starter with original throw also it wont push your engine rearwards....

I thought the selector to the T2 091 was fine but could be wrong, I know it varies on the T25 as to wether its front or side mounted, if thats the case can you not transpose your old nose cone?

Thinking about it sure the bell was lengthened 75> so the 091 has the deeper bell.....
