Hi Guys, been browsing the forum recently and loving it so thought i’d better start a thread

After driving around the country looking at all sorts of bays a friend put me onto this one 10 minutes from home so we went to have a look

We broke down on Eastbourne seafront which gave me a chance to take these pictures. A second viewing and another break down meant we obviously had to take it

Since then its been a bit of a rolling resto, being used all summer and tinkered with in the winter, will get busy with pictures over the coming days, Cheers!

So we picked up the Bus in May 2017 and got straight into a few local trips and VW shows and a couple of longer runs down to Cornwall over the summer

and meeting my other air cooled toy !

So the first winter we decided to start on the interior as it was RED! I never took any pictures of it but it was alot of red plastic and a plastic headlining that was collapsing with loft insulation behind it so i started ripping it out and was happy with what i found, some surface rust and a few holes to sort but nothing major

Then onto the grinding, welding, painting and all that other fun stuff

The bed was in good shape so some new wood for the front of it and a new storage box and it was ready for the trimmers

So we met Leigh from Combe Valley Campers at one of our first VW shows, he hadn’t long set up his business but after a chat about what we were after we got booked in for sorting the interior, the first lot of work included sound deadening and insulation, leisure electrics, headlining and curtains. As with most these things it turned out being a lot more work along the way as things were uncovered but we got the bus back ready for summer 2018 and were chuffed with it

So that summer we got alot of use out of the bus including one week taking in the south coast stopping at Dorset ,Devon, Cornwall then heading up into Wales

The bus didn’t get out much for 2019, it went in for a door card set with our trimmer David Powell at the start of the year which turned out lovely

Later in the year i dropped the engine out to sort a few little bits and managed to get to a couple of VW shows but otherwise a quiet year on the bus

Which leads me onto this year!
So it had always had a few electrical niggles I wanted to sort so at the start of the year I took the dash out to see what was going on.

There were a few wires chopped about and the rest of it was all rather tired so I started looking into new looms.

After a phone call with Iain at air-cooled autoelec it was a no brainer, so a new loom and one of his lovely 3D printed blade fuse boxes turned up a few weeks later.

Very nice, the new fuse boxes weren’t available when Iain did mine last year.
Hope we can start using our buses a bit more later on in the year ! [emoji2957]

A bit more progress in the cab in the last few weeks, just tidying bits , routing everything nicely and finally putting a stereo in
Went for a blaupunkt unit, quite a subtle looking headunit i think by modern standards
As for speakers i didn’t want them in the doors but didn’t want them screwed into the flimsy kick panels so made some mounts up and cut the kickboard out to fit over it

Up next i have some porsche 944 seats to go in which from reading around shouldn’t be too bad fingers crossed!

Dashboard is all back together now, installed a Smiths rev gauge which was simple to fit and a nice addition

I have ran led strips under the dash that work off the door switches , they are a bit blingy so may require a channel to sit in to divert the light

Porsche seats are mocked up

And the rest of my trim is back from the trimmers, it all needs a bit of fettling / finishing touches

Slightly regretting calling my post a rolling resto. Not much rolling going on at the moment!

Oooh! I like that fuse box!!! 👌

Small update as we head into summer
Bus developed a small misfire towards the end of last year but tucked it away in my workshop and forgot about it until I had to drag it out for my wedding at the start of March.
After a small check through of everything found that the top of the dizzy cap had broken up along with the carbon

New one turned up and now running sweet again just in time for all necessary wedding duties! Excuse my ugly mug

Got a trip to Cornwall in a few weeks which will probably be about 700 miles all in so should be fun!
