Been a few weeks since i got my bus, well 10 actually  , where does the time go, never been so bloody busy with work

Started looking for a bus around December '10 but didnt know what i wanted early or late, eventually came to my senses and with my 40th birthday looming decided i would get a '71, but still didnt know wether it would be a Deluxe or Westy pop top / tin top

Decided to get one from the States so contacted a few dealers over there and a couple of private of private sellars on the samba, decided that i would stick to the dealers

The saying that you wait for ages for one bus to come then two come at once was never so true, on a Thursday in early May Darren aka gods good in California sent me some pics of a 71 sunroof Deluxe in Elm green (now Nugsy's bus), wasnt sure so asked for a couple of days then on the Saturday John aka the oval guy in Texas sent some pics of a 71 Westy tin top in white, later that day John sent me loads more pics, so it was decision time :? , the westy was a fair few $ more but i decided this was the bus for me

So here's the pics i know you like them

A couple John sent me

Having trouble uploading

Going to pull the engine soon and think im probably going to go twin carbs so the pancake will be getting tossed

Got a few plans now with the pics

Pulled the enginge and gearbox, engines fucked :( , crank been reground , oil pump knackered, camshaft worn and the pistons got some odd marks on them

pics of these later, bought another engine AS code, not stripped it yet,but fingers crosssed

Firewall out and petrol tank out

The bus has had a fire at some stage in its life and has been painted in the engine bay

Top work Dale, shame about that engine.

Keep the pictures coming 8)

If you ever want to come over and borrow my shot blasting cabinet it makes short work of all those suspension pieces ;)

Hi,

Nice find, lots of potential there. How are you removing the underseal, mines the same, i job i urgently need to do, once it's off, i am gonna use this:

Cheers,

Alistair

Thanks for the offer Mark, may well take you up on it :D

Alistair, ive got some Hammerite stone chip paint for the arches, not sure on the prep yet, the bare metal where its been on fire will be sanded back to clean metal and etched primed, thats as much as i know now !

More pics over the weekend

Got my carbs to show off, in the box anyway

Lots more stripping this weekend

I've used Hammerite stonechip on the arch, but im not happy with finish of the paint , i was after a more ripply finish if you know what i mean, this took 2 cans

Its hard to tell in the pics butbelieve me its a totally differant finish ;)

Blimey your not wasting any time! Like it, good find I reckon :D

Did you use the aerosol cans of Tetrosyl or the shultz-gun style from a compressor?

Finish looks great! :D

Ive used the aerosol , but it was only to try it, i posted a thread in the general section asking about stonechip paints

Im goin to carry on with the aerosols to keep the finish uniform
