As I am currently replacing my roof, I have been through a lot of 1mm cutting discs. I decided to try a different type each time I ran out to see if it was worth paying extra for "better quality". Here are my findings for those that have wondered the same thing. I got all my discs from Screwfix.

In short, no. Get the cheapest you can find (unless you really are that good that you can exploit the accuracy of thinner 0.8mm discs).

I started with these Erbauer discs at £6 for 5: http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-cutting-discs-115-x-1-x-22-23mm-5-pack/76482 and didn't last very long at all. These were the first one I tried.

I then decided to go for the expensive Flexovit ones, at 0.8mm thin: http://www.screwfix.com/p/flexovit-ultra-thin-cutting-discs-115-x-0-8-x-22-23mm-5-pack/71334 these are £8.50 for 5. They lasted about as long as the Erbauers, but then again they are slightly thinner.

I then went for the cheapest cutting discs from Screwfix as I was burning money. These Titans: http://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-metal-cutting-discs-115-x-1-x-22-23mm-3-pack/7600d you can get 9 for £6.33. These have lasted just as long as the other types but are almost half the price.

Note that Screwfix also do a pack of 10 Bosch discs for £10: http://www.screwfix.com/p/bosch-metal-cutting-discs-115-x-1-x-22-23mm-pack-of-10/65939 however these are not a stocked item so have to be ordered in, so I wasn't able to try these.

I found the same also.
Ended up using the cheap ones from my local motor factors (when I started they were 10 for £9, but currently 10 for £10).

The only difference I have noticed with cutting discs is some of the really cheap ones have a paper information sheet stuck to the top of them, rather than having it etched/painted(not sure exactly what it is) onto them.
Typically that paper sheet is not easy to remove fully and causes the disc to pick up when cutting, therefore shattering the disc (hence, always wear glasses)!

So just avoid those ones, its obvious which they are on photos.. Because the sheet is glossy and smooth rather than the usual rough and dull.

my last set of dirt cheap ebay ones are much more prone to self destructing than others I've had...got through a shed load in the last 12 months! They have no markings on at all...all the others, and marginally stronger ones, have had at least something written on them.
Happy cutting!
Cheers
Al
