Well a great way to end my disastrous bank holiday was waiting for recovery for four hours with another dead accuspark, this one lasted a little longer making it to 150 miles!

Before I buy a 123, I'd like to know if anything could be killing my ignitions? Is there another cause? Dodgy electrics, battery immobiliser, timing?

Noticed that my acceleration wasn't great in 1st gear, later on I slowed down for the lights thinking I'd stalled the engine, generator and oil light comes on and I have to pull over. It died immediately unlike the previous fried accuspark which allowed me to drive along at 20 mph for a good few miles.

I don't think so on this occasion, but it is something I would probably do.

Which coil should I pair up with the 123 RV ignition?

I've had mine on for 4 years with no problems so I'd look a little deeper. Is the coil over heating ?

I needed to get this back on the road asap, so bought a better coil, the Bosch 00012, the 123RV ignition still coming from The Netherlands, trailered it up to a new garage. He checked everything, alternator, coil etc, all working fine! It turns out that the distributor had a loose bolt and was moving about! All parts seemed to have survived despite the rotor arm being chipped. I might fit these parts anyway. So this loose distributor might have been the problem on both occasions and there was nothing wrong with the Accusparks to be fair.

What I did learn from the experience is that 'free' roadside recovery through your insurance is pants. They won't lift a finger or attempt to fix/ remove anything...not allowed. He could have spotted the loose part, redone the timing and sent me on my way.

Not Accuspark but fitted a Pertronix Flamthrower to a friends type 2 . Wired up correctly turned ignition on and smoke coming from inside distributor. Didn't even get it started. Hopefully going to replaced under warrantee as faulty unit but has to go via dealer to manufacturer. Could take 4 weeks. I haven't mentioned dealer as would like to see what they say before criticising or praising them.

I've just fitted an acuspark so hope it's ok - it's running more smoothly but is there a reliability problem at all - hope not as I've read lots of positive reviews
