I've got a problem with my van its a 1641 with twin carbs ,,,to start off with it was starting to miss abit and then it started to lose power and back firer over s few weeks, some 1 told me to change the dizzy so I got a new 1 and fitted it and set the timing up on tick over, no more back firing which is the good news I think but still lack of power?? I've heard a few other things it could be but wanted to ask people who might have gone through it already

Spark plugs knackered
Valve clearance need setting up
Or the dizzy not running right over 2000rpm
Ignition needs setting up

What I have noticed to is the engine seems to be getting a bit hotter alot quicker than usual
And the exhaust get hot quick I'm dreading it bein something really bad
The engine is out as I'm doin some cleaning and maintenance but want to try and sort it Wilst it's out :(

Please help any help will be great
Thanks sam

Had similar issues to what your describing , intermittent loss of power , backfireing , engine running hotter than normal , and after checking or replaceing a whole host of stuff ( as thought it was down to the ignition system dizzy , plugs ect ) it turned out to be a weak fuel pump so my twin carbs wernt getting enough fuel (fuel starvation ) and the fuel bowls on them were gradually emptying and then refilling when the engine wasnt under any load . put a new fuel pump on and hey presto problem gone . Just check the pump is pushing plenty of fuel through . Along with the other checks you have already mentioned !
That was my problem and may be nothing related to yours but its another thing to check :)

YES come to the conclusion most over heating is caused by a lean mixture, its working out the reason why that causes all the probs!!!!
