Ball joint problems

The nuts on both lower ball joints are not tightening properly. The top one are fine. All are new. So can I put washers in or is there a way of getting these to tighten. I am going to be honest I don't know if the ball joint its self is turning as I was at the back of the van doing rear lights.

The threaded part of the balljoints have a hexkey end. If you are just using a spanner then it can spin.

Excuse my retardedness but what should I do? Spanner on nut and something else on the hex end?

Allen key I believe.

Or if they don't have a hex key in the end, get some load on them or find some way of compressing the ball joint into the receiving 'cup'. Normally once they start to nip up, they won't spin again - not in my experience anyway.
