Hi all I'm new to the forum, I have a question about doors. I own a 70 bay an would like to replace the sliding door with barn doors! Is this possible without moving the frame or cutting the doors? Ie are the barn doors closed the same size as the sliding door? Many thanks Jay

I'll second that, why?

You mean cargo-doors, barndoors are something else. It would be madness to butcher an early bay to the extent you would need to to convert to cargo-doors. + it would Seriously de-value it. It would require the side section of a splitty to be grafted in, at vast expense, + some fabrication.

If you Really want cargo doors I would suggest selling your bay and buying a Splitty.

Simon.

NoooooooooO!
Answer to your question is
Buy a split!
If you do decide don't expect to
Sell it easily!
It's taboo :msn4:
It's like Harry potter walking down
Camper van Allie and shouting
Volimore!
Shit I said it

Theres a chap from Pakistan posted on the 'custom script badge' thread - reezvaan. If you follow his link it takes you to his home page on his local forum 'PAKISTAN AIR-COOLED VW REGISTRY FORUMS' (yeah i'd never heard of it either) and he has exactly that, the slider has been cut in half and hinged either side. Shame cus its a cool signwritten bus

Fleetline is what your talking about. Get one of these instead of wrecking something, someone had one forsale at sweetcorn with disney writing on.

Its not fleetline vans, just Brazilian built bay windows, they've built them with a right mish mash of parts over there and you get them with opening cargo doors, rear corner windows, split rear hatches ... all sorts.

To the OP ... yes its possible, you get factory splits with sliding doors too. If you have an appropriate donor van thats a project and the time and skillz, then go for it.

That Disneyland bus is not a Fleetline, its a Fugly, as Clem says its a mish mash of bay/split parts.
Late bay front and back, split pan, split steering column, floors, windows, bay roof. Fleetline only produced 1975. These were a bit later 78/79 I think.
That bus is from SA, believed to been used for fruitpicking and then a school bus hence the Disneyland signwriting. I know cause my mate was thinking about buying it.
History lesson over and I agree with most. Get a split instead

Your bus your way I think. Mind you the wife suggested it for the Westy we didn't speak for a week silly moo

If you want cargo doors on your bus - go for it

Make sure you take loads of pics of the process and how its done.

Your bus - Your rules!

Variety is the spice of life!

Lol right can a worms here then! Differing opinions by the plenty lol. I love splits jus can't afford one, and was only toying with the idea as I don't like sliding doors really! I like the opening of doors an having like a store cupboard on there or something. Sorry. :(
