I don't have big motor in my bus, but I have a question for you lot. What's with stainless valves? Surely stainless is softer than the standard steel (I guess hardened carbon steel). Wouldn't that mean they would be more prone to not sealing and require adjustment more often?

This thread is making me feel quite inadequate!

K@rlos what gearbox are you running with that sort of power

Stock 3 rib ATM  the acceleration is biblical but top end sucks. Gonna get a Cogbox number over the winter.

If you Guys take it easy on the throttle
What kind of 'Mileage' you getting? I'm thinking about another 'stroker' build 8)

Not a 'big' motor but not stock , my 1776

Did about 80 miles in mine the weekend used about 1/3 of a tank. But that was being keen with the throttle. I do expect better fuel consumption on a run tbh.

To be honest I never really check fuel economy, but it is better than the stock 1600 coz I don't have to rev the nuts off it to go anywhere. Must be high 20s though.

Agreed crusing is effortless with a stroker motor. Mine sits at 70 with traffic and it's like the bus is saying meh, easy 8)

Subaru 2L
Six rib box with rjes input shaft and bell housing
Rebuilt with longer 3rd + 4th
Subaru clutch
Shortened sump

My first big trip in my bus when I fitted to porsche engine (apart form the 500mile shakedown) I drove my bus around France - 3000miles. I generally put in super unleaded (98) as most motorways do the E-85 which I wasnt going to use.

I averaged 23.75mpg
Motor driving peaked at 30mpg for a 150-200mile non-stop motorway drive

I was very happy with that as I was expecting less than 20 :)

Thought I'd recover this thread after a couple years.
My motor has had a few upgrades

CB performance 42x37 Ultramag heads, CB performance 'big beef' manifolds and an Engle FK10 camshaft & new Scat lifters. Can't wait to drive it again
