After fitting some new seals, my door appears to have dropped down (again) and back slightly.. it wont close any more, the lock catch is just hitting the pillar..

is there any way i can fix this, fast? its going in for a new frontt panel in february.. but i can't wait until that, as it's my daily driver..

Please help me :?

:? Not sure without being able to see it.

I suspect the seal at the front of the door is causing issues or getting in the way, forcing the door backwards. Is it a lot harder to get the catch near to the B pillar?

Can it be persuaded shut and you use the passenger door for a while?

I've just fitted some replacement doors to my bus and one did exactly the same with the lock catch binding on the door post. I was daunted by this because there is only vertical adjustment on the hinges :( . In the end i had to take the door off and put a large adjustable spanner on the hinge bracket and bend the bracket slightly towards the front of the bus. I am pleased to say this solved the problem :D . But i would spend some time ensuring the seal isnt fouling and pushing the door back and the hinge bolts are tight before doing what i had to do. If the hinge pins/bushes are excessively worn they can also cause havoc with door clearances. Good luck and hope you are back on the road soon

well, after trying the door for ages, forcing the seal into the track its supposed to be in, i managed to close the door.. and wont use it until the front panel is replaced in feb (maybe my A pillar (?) is bent)

but, i have also decided to get my cab doors welded, with some new skins on the lower half if my current ones are that bad. As they don't sit flush at the bottom (partly due to the bad door fit and new seals)

and they have this mess on the bottom that needs sorting

anybody able to do the bottom of my doors for a reasonable price, i don't know how to weld? :?

I see what you mean!!!!!. I bet there is a good chance the A post could be distorted, if it is, its probably a good idea to try and straighten it and sort the problem before even trying to attempt a front panel swop  . fitting the panel to the correctly aligned A post frame will not only be easier but will decrease the chance of an incorrect fit.

As for the doors the new seals do stop the bottoms sitting entirely flush with the wheelarch, i have the same problem with mine on solid doors, so i should know :(, i think i will have to make do or it will be next christmas before i get them perfect  .

It is possible to repair the underside of the doors, but the problem is, because of the position of the door frame inside the door it is impossible to paint over all the welding repairs from inside the door, so the rainwater will inevitably get in and rot them from the inside  , just waiting for my repaired doors to do this too. So if the skins are ok?, you could leave them for a year or two, or perhaps some good replacement doors could be an option

I'll ask the bloke who's doing the panel to sort that, he's a VW specialist, so i'm sure he'll knock it back.. especially because i have mentioned the bad fit to him when i grabbed the quote, and asked him to do it

The skins are OK (exept that rist crack you can see in the picture), i'll have to get the bottoms done soon, because the ass which welded them before, managed to almost completely close the channel which the seal sits in, then decided it was a good idea to cut the old, shot seal so the bottom had NO seal at all :? i'm no professional but that is stupid! im sure a nice dose of waxoyl would keep rust at bay, or prolong the doors life.. maybe some sacrificial metal inside the door?

defo looks like theres a post distortion where it meets the window, doors dont drop from fitting a new seal?
