This is what happens when amateurs got hold of tools....all gee'd up to check rear brakes as they haven't been checked since I owned the bus... and bang !

Thanks Fortunate Son but I don't think a tommy bar would have helped - getting enough leverage was not the issue - the tool breaking was the issue !
Have ordered 3/4 inch breaker bar and socket...(the broken one was 1/2 inch)

OK, no worries (my "tommy" bar is 3/4 drive and is a slider type rather than a fixed pivot - my dad bought it in the early 80s and it's still going strong!)
