hi all.got a problem which is driving me up the wall. brake lights stopped working. have had everything apart and made sure everything is earthed well. fuses ok bulbs ok. just wondered about brake light switch. any help would be greatly appreciated and will save me from the funny farm.

If you've checked the fuses (and fusebox connectors where the fuse sits), bulbs and earth then it makes sense to check the switch - just put a continuity tester across the terminals while an assistant presses the brake pedal.

I had this problem a couple of months back on Joys' '67 bug - it turned out that the fusebox needed some treatment with the fine emery cloth - easy!

If it is the switch then at least it won't be expensive to fix!

;)

Just remember that some cheapo aftermarket switches are rubbish. I got through three in as many weeks before I finally went to a main VW dealer and to my amazement bought a brand new one
