Good evening, I've just replaced all the braking system in my 71 bus with later 73 onwards components. so, my question is this, do I still need the pressure regulator? or can it be left off, Am I right in the thinking vw made these obsolete around 73? Thank you.

No, all VW bay bus brake systems have the pressure regulator. The design changed slightly in '72 or '73, VW saying that the late regulator can be
installed in the earlier busses with a slight modification to the long rear brake hard line. I also have 73-79 bus rear brake components in my
'71 bus, and use the original '71 regulator, but the residual pressure valve has been gutted per a Service Bulletin from VW of America.
