Hi all,
With the help of dad I have re-wired my westy this winter, I repaired the brake warning light as part of this I thought I would share how We did it in case it's of help to others.

This image I have taken from my handbook and details how the light should work

Unit pulled apart being careful not to crack the body this reviled the diode my dad had diagnosed as the likely issue.

Quick internet search for similar diodes found what I needed.
Diodes are denoted by the bands on them, in this case it's duel black bands.
Given these are old, the diodes have changed so we found the modern version a 1N6533.
I sourced my new diode from Maplins at 48p a pop. The diode I was after they didn't have but a similar one with a higher forward voltage was available.

New diode fitted

You must remember which end of the diode attaches to which terminal as the job of diode is to stop the current flow from the end with the bands.

I put it all back together and it all works great.

a 48p repair! Fantastic work. Who says buses are expensive!
