busfest parts prices..

I've not been for a few years, blown away by the prices of second hand bay parts, £300 for a rear hatch, £275 for an engine lid. there was a guy buying a rear apron, £200 the guy start taking the catch off,
"sorry mate that does not include the catch" :lol:

I think the prices by most members on here reflect a reasonable rate.
This was our third Busfest and the prices have climbed considerably, I do realise this is a part business making venture,
although I still will go to shows I think buying power is going to go the forum etc. route.

Bartering, mates rates and beer tickets for want of a better way of putting it, I think will win in the end.
Let's hope so anyway. :lol: :lol:

Its a shame really, out of interest I have been watching a standard EarlyBay gearbox on e-bay it ends soon and is at £155 plus £40 postage.
It's not been tested by the seller so is not defiantly any good.
I'm pretty sure sparkeywig sold a box recently for £50 ish.

Slightly off-topic but One thing I noticed a this year were traders - megabug and C&C in particular going round auto jumble stalls and buying up rakes of parts.

I have mixed feelings about it - I guess the "restored" parts they then sell on from these provides a service to those who don't want the hassle but personally I like to buy oily scruffy looking bits and restore them myself - all part of the satisfaction for me. Just a bit worried that the days of getting excited (maybe I am a sad git) about rooting through boxes to see what gems may turn up may be over

I asked one trader for the part and he said that he had sold all of them to another larger trader.
I guess if you have the reddies you reduce the competition and get to push up the price.
That's the way it goes I guess.

I have traded next to megabug at the breeze and sold them a load of stuff, the thing is the sellers want to sell and megabug have the money.

I also paid £50 for a gearbox and in the past i've swap 24 stella's for a 1302 box. Bay part are rising like splits have done in the past. T25 will be next now Mr.Ballz has made one look cool.

i spoke a guy call john from Texas, he sold most of his parts to traders on thursday, the days of routing around the piles of parts for a bargain are gone.

I was after a few bits but the prices were way over the top!
I know its for all transporters but there were more T4 and T5 that previous years, looks like the plumbers have taken it over completely!

Managed to get second hand but nice condition OG Engine bay and Tail Gate lockables with keys (different :roll: ) for £67.

No wonder all this traders are hyper active at California shows buying bits.

I shall be back full of bits and have an earlybay preview before the traders come and buy all the parts :mrgreen:

I have to say that the one I needed was a one screw lockable one and not the 3 screw type.
I to think that the old days of routing around and suddenly finding something at the very bottom
of the box are sadly gone now.

Oh well I guess the discovery of a cheapish part from now on, will have to do it for me.

I had one result, which will probably be my last - a fuel filler flap spring for 50 pence from a Proper enthusiast who was selling his last few bits from the park bench opposite Randy Carlson's van late Saturday afternoon.

Spent a while chatting to him and recalled that I had bought bits off him loads of times before years ago at Stanford Hall and Dubfreeze. Really nice bloke with years and years of experience owning and restoring splits and bays - restored my faith a bit after a fairly poor show for me.

Andy if you can get that spring to fit you can do mine, I've spent years trying and ended up putting a magnet on to hold it shut.

I traded my R-keyed engine lid lock with an L-code at VolksHeaven, nice blokes there and reasonable prices if you can pick up.

Oh Trikki I'm not sure the ones you posted fit earlybays, might say so, but looking at different ones at VolksHeaven I doubt it.

It's sad traders buy up the stuff just to sell it back to us, should be left to the people who need it...

We missed out on some tinware for a spare Type 4 Engine we have because a guy bought it all (almost two full sets) from one stand then put it all on his own stand. Somebody even beat us to that which had the inflated prices.
