Hi

Just joined the site and have been looking around and noticed the piece on chassis numbers in the history section, I've got a 1970 Dormobile whose chassis No is 2302071686 which doesnt seem to correspond to any of those given!! Can anyone shed any light on it??

Cheers

Chassis No is totally different to M codes.
M codes will be behind LH seat. Send them to me if you want and i will try to decode them.

Right here goes

Model years 70 to 79 had a 10 digit chassis No

23 (designates Kombi=most camper conversions left the factory as kombis)

0 (designates year=they only use the second No so 0 is 70)

2 (used to distinguish between 60s and 70s No,s)

071 686 (Serial No)

And thats it. You can from the last 6 No,s work out which week it was made but ive not worked that out yet.
Model year 1970 went from 000 001 to 248 837 which means they made 248837 T2s in that year.

Clyde - as you seem to tbe the emerging Chassis no/M-code guru - heres another one sent in by another viewer !

Off a '72 ...

2222221234

could you do a de-code ?

PS. Fair few campers certainly in the UK seem to be based on model 22 -Microbus (my 69 Devon included) ...

Easy did this one of the top of my head

22 (designates microbus)

2 (designates year=2nd number only 2=72)

2 (used to distinguish between 60s and 70s models)

221 234 (serial No)

On 70 to 79 buses with 10 digit Nos the first 4 always mean

Type, year and 60s(1) or 70s(2)

On 67=69 buses it is different and is more like a splitty code.(less numbers different meanings)
I like M codes best because they give you more information on the bus itself.
