ive just removed my enigine from my 69 bay and when i got round to looking at the back of the engine the clutch was in bits the centre ring that pushes the relese bearing had come off not sure how this happened but ive ordered a new 1 from J.K and got it today but when i opened the box like a 10 year old kid i was shocked abit as it looked completly different the old clutch i had was a diaphragm 1 and the new 1 ive got has like 3 arms to the centre push ring is this ok to fit as they both have centre rings but im just worried incase i fit the new 1 and it wont work and i wont be able to get my pennies back
thanks sam

Post some pics up mate of what you have. Also get gearbox code incase the box has chaged at any point.

Yep you got the wrong clutch. Annoying isn't it? I never order until I see what's fitted - these old girls are 40 and you never know what's been done previously.

i did do that first mate i wanted to be sure, i took the engine out first and looked wat was up i wasnt planning on changing the clutch but as it was broken im gonna have to i took some photos of them and sent them to the tech department at just kampers and he said straight away this is the replacement i need as its the only clutch they do with the centre ring and they said that different brands make different styles of clutchs and the brand they use is this 1 it says on the box of the clutch its a 68 - 72
im so confused now i really dont no wat to do i need to get my van up and running asap as i have 2 weddings to drive for,

That's an early gearbox so you need the clutch with pad.
Ie, the clutch release bearing donesnt have the push shaft from the gearbox.

Heritages clutches are the 3 finger type with the pad in the centre.
Some suppliers are the splines with a removable pad so it can be used for either, that's what you had in to start with I think.

You've been advised that you have the wrong one presumably as your first post only states you had a diaphragm one and not the fact the pad had come off. Had you said there was a pad attached to the diaphragm that had fallen off, you would have been told to fit the new one you have.
So the 3 finged one with the pad should be correct IMHO.

I am pretty sure I am correct, but sure someone will correct me if wrong
Tricky ??????

The bit that's come apart is the release bearing - last 3 pics.
The clutch is ok.
When I say ok, the fingers have had some wear because the release bearing was broken. You'll have to judge for yourself, but I replace it anyway.

But I think it may have been the wrong clutch in the first place, as the release bearing you have needs a guide on the gearbox that you don't have. Possibly why it fell to pieces. Hopefully someone more familiar with the early boxes will be along to be more +ve.

If you are getting a replacement clutch I found http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to be cheaper than the main VW specialists. It may be best to call them though as the website isn't great

 Yes thats right :)

The clutch cover with a pad and its associated release bearing is the right one for an early box that does not have the guide tube round the input shaft. If there is a choice, I prefer the diaphragm type clutch cover with its centre ring to the earlier 3 finger design because it gives a lighter pedal.
