Doesn't seem a '72 to me. The VIN would tell. Maybe it's '73 car registered in '72.
 
tipi is right, its probably one of the first latebays, built and registered late 72' forsale 73'
 
The very first lates where technically crossovers with the late bumpers and high indicators, note the crossover fuel flap and early style sliding door handle, probably find it has the earlier style dash too.
It was also common for some folk to convert crossovers to late spec to make them look more modern and valuable ( other way round nowadays :D ) but I dont think this is dodgy in anyway.
