EarlyBay Nut for Steering Wheel - Cannot Find Anywhere?!

Does anyone know where I could find the top nut for a 1968 steering column or even have more information about it?

I believe it is this one:

I have sent them a message, however received no reply, so I am not sure if it is an active website.

It seems to be different from the one available on JK / VWPC etc:

It has been a while since I worked on my bus, but there is vertical play in the column since rebuilding it, which I am hoping the correct nut will solve.

The steering column nut on my '68 is the same as the JK one.
If you have vertical play in the column are you sure the bearing is OK?

Well unless the nut is loose it wont make any difference, what do you mean by vertical. Can you push and pull it flat ways across the wheel or do you mean it lifts up and down. Have you got the spring under wheel?

That's good thanks for confirming it's the same nut, saves me going down an unnecessary rabbit hole!

The bearing is brand new, I have replaced everything on the column, but it's one of those things where I had to pause the project to do other things, then you forget where you are up to with it and just remember the play / movement was something to sort out.

^ Ignore the red arrow, do you mean the one at the top of the diagram? I assumed that was for the horn push?

However, I should have probably have pointed out in my first message that I have a non-standard steering wheel, sorry for missing the kind of essential piece of information there!

Excuse the terrible pictures, but I there is stuff all around the bus so these are the best pictures for now:

The play is up and down, as in, diagonal towards and away from the driver) as indicated by the arrow. I would estimate that there is around 5-8mm of travel. The column remains static, but the wheel moves, almost like it is missing a spacer. I just assumed the nut was not correct:

I’ll go with what the others are saying above, as in that spring. Another thing you may wish to check , especially if you’ve pressed the pause button on that little projects and come back to it, is the squareish rubber doughnut between the column and the box. I’ve seen some that have virtually fallen to pieces after a bit of a wrestling match pulling it apart and one that I did replace and got sidetracked, I hadn’t fully tightened the four bolts. But nobody else will ever have done that.

Yes that spring pushes the bearing sleeve into the the bearing , without that there will be excessive play. Broken rubber coupling will cause column to move up and down as will loose clamp bolt on spline .

The spring pushes the collar down to take up the play , either missing will have the same effect
